The notification for the posts of Sailor for Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR) and Artificer Apprentice (AA) has been released by the Indian Navy. A total of 500 vacancies are available for AA and 2000 vacancies for SSR. In this article, we will explain to you about Navy Sailor Job Profile and Eligibility Criteria for SSR and AA.

Navy AA SSR Eligibility Criteria

The shortlisting of the candidates for written examination and Physical Fitness Test (PFT) will be undertaken on the basis of the percentage of qualifying examination (10+2 examination). The cut-off marks may vary from state to state as vacancies have been allocated in a state-wise manner. In this article, we will discuss the Job Profile and the latest Eligibility Criteria of this examination which will give an overall idea about these vacancies. The candidate must be an unmarried male. In addition, candidates must meet the following educational qualification and age criteria:

Navy AA SSR Educational Qualification:

Post Qualification
Artificer Apprentice (AA) 10+2 exam with 60% aggregate or more with the subjects – Maths, Physics, and Chemistry/Biology/Computer Science.
Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR) 10+2 examination with Maths, Physics, and Chemistry/Biology/Computer Science.

Navy AA SSR Age Limit:

Candidates should be born between 01 Aug 2002 to 31 July 2005 (Both dates inclusive). Candidates must be 17-20 years of age.

Navy AA Sailor Job Profile

  • Candidates selected will undergo nine weeks’ Basic Training at INS Chilka followed by Professional training in the allotted trade at various Naval Training Establishments.
  • The initial engagement is for a period of 20 years.
  • The major responsibility of Artificer is the management of men as well as the technical challenges of operating and maintaining some of the most complex systems and sophisticated equipment.

Navy SSR Sailor Job Profile

  • Candidates selected will undergo 22 weeks of Basic Training at INS Chilka followed by Professional training in the allotted trade in various Naval Training Establishments.
  • The initial engagement is for a period of 15 years. 
  • As a sailor, candidates will be serving in powerful, modern ships such as aircraft carriers, guided-missile destroyers and frigates, replenishment ships, and highly technical and fascinating submarines and aircraft.
