Indian Army JCO and Havildar 2023 Recruitment Process

The backbone of Indian Army is its Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and Havildars, who play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the army. The JCOs and Havildars are responsible for leading troops on the ground, managing logistics, and maintaining discipline within the ranks.

The Indian Army conducts recruitment drives for JCOs and Havildars every year to fill the vacancies in its ranks. In this article, we will take a closer look at the recruitment process for JCOs and Havildars in the Indian Army.

The recruitment process for JCOs and Havildars in the Indian Army consists of the following stages:

  1. Online Application: The first step in the recruitment process is to submit an online application on the official website of the Indian Army. The candidate should fill in all the required details and upload the necessary documents.
  2. Written Test: The next stage of the recruitment process is the written test, which consists of multiple-choice questions. The written test is conducted to assess the candidate’s knowledge of General Awareness, Maths, and Reasoning.
  3. Recruitment Rally: The Indian Army conducts recruitment rallies or bharti rallies to recruit soldiers for various trades in its ranks. The recruitment rallies are held throughout in various parts of the country to ensure that candidates from all over the country have an equal opportunity to apply and join the Indian Army.
  4. Interview: Interview will be conducted for RT JCO only. The Interview is conducted to assess the candidate’s overall personality, communication skills, and leadership qualities. The candidates who clear the Interview are recommended for selection.
  5. Physical Fitness Test: The candidates who clear all above mentioned tests are called for a Physical Fitness Test. The Physical Fitness Test consists of a 1.6 km run, Pull-ups, Balance, and 9 feet ditch jump. The candidates who meet the required physical standards are shortlisted for the next stage.
  6. Medical Examination: The candidates who clear the Physical Fitness Test are called for a Medical Examination. The Medical Examination is conducted to assess the candidate’s physical fitness and medical history. The candidates who meet the required medical standards are shortlisted for the final merit list.

Training:

The candidates who are selected for JCOs and Havildars undergo training at the Indian Army’s Training Institutes. The training period for JCOs (religious Teacher) is of  6 weeks (Basic Trainig) plus 11 weeks of specialisation training and Havildars will go through 19 weeks of Basic Military training followed by 58 weeks of Basic Technical Training. The overall training generally covers various aspects such as weapon training, tactical training, physical fitness, and leadership development.
