Uttarakhand Foundation Day also known as Uttarakhand Diwas or Uttarakhand Day is celebrated on November 9, every year. On November 9, 2000, Uttarakhand was declared as the 27th state. In the year 2007, it acquired the name Uttrakhand instead of Uttaranchal. The stories of this state are related to the great dynasties of Kushanas, Kudinas, Kanishka, Samudragupta, Kataria, Palas, Chandras, and Pawaras.

The state is Located at the foothills of the Himalayan mountain ranges, it is largely a hilly State, having international boundaries with China (Tibet) in the north and Nepal in the east. It has very rich natural resources which include glaciers, rivers, dense forests and snow-capped mountain peaks. It also houses the four most sacred and revered Hindu temples also known as the Char Dham of Uttarakhand. Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. The capital of the state is Dehradun and the winter capital is Gairsain.

History and significance of Uttarakhand Day

The Princely State acceded to the Union of India in 1949. In 1950, this United Province was renamed Uttar Pradesh. However, the government of Uttar Pradesh could not meet the needs of people belonging to this Himalayan region. Therefore, people started demanding a separate state following the formation of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal.

The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal worked for years since the 90s to achieve statehood. After years of struggling for years and finally, on November 9, 2000, Uttaranchal, the 27th state of India, was formed by the Uttar Pradesh Regulation Act, of 2000. The border states of Uttarakhand include Tibet, Nepal, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

Uttarakhand Foundation Day 2022 Celebration

Magnific programs will be organized in Nainital on the occasion of the 22nd Foundation Day of Uttarakhand. Following the tradition of every year, this time too Sailing Rigada will be organized at Naini Lake and a food festival will be organized on the flats ground in collaboration with the Hotel Association where locals and tourists will be able to enjoy food made out of mountain products.

A large-scale cleanliness campaign is also being conducted across the district. Senior students of schools as well as cadets of NCC, and NSS will also be involved in the campaign.

Stalls will also be set up in the flats to give information about products and government schemes from government departments and self-help groups and on the occasion of Foundation Day, all government and semi-government buildings would be decorated with electric lights.
