Territorial Army Syllabus 2023

The Territorial Army has recently released a short notification regarding the Territorial Army Officer Recruitment 2023 for a number of 19 position. Territorial Army Exam Pattern 2023

Let’s look at the Territorial Army Exam Pattern below in the form of a table –

Time: The time for each session is  2 Hours which will be conducted in 2 sessions.

Type Of Exam: The examination will be conducted in Paper Pen (OMR) mode.

Qualifying Marks: Minimum 40% marks in each part of the paper separately and an overall average of 50%.

Penalty for Wrong Answers: There will be a penalty imposed for wrong answers marked by a candidate as under:-

  • There will be four possible answers to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, a 0.33 mark assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty.
  • If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happens to be correct. The penalty will be imposed as above.
  • There will be no penalty for questions not attempted.

The Paper 1 in the Territorial Army is of the Reasoning and the Elementary Mathematics which consists of the following topics:

Paper 1. Reasoning and Elementary Mathematics

Part – 1: Territorial Army Syllabus Reasoning: The Reasoning section of the Territorial Army syllabus assesses the candidate’s ability to think logically and solve problems using patterns, analogies, and spatial reasoning. It evaluates the candidate’s mental agility and their ability to make sound deductions from given information. The topics covered under this section include:

Cube & Dice Tests the candidate’s understanding of spatial relationships and their ability to visualize and manipulate three-dimensional objects.
Mirror Image Assesses the candidate’s ability to perceive and analyze reflections, identifying patterns and relationships in mirrored images.
Water Image Evaluates the candidate’s ability to perceive and analyze reflections, identifying patterns and relationships in water-reflected images.
Analogy Evaluates the candidate’s ability to recognize similarities and relationships between concepts or objects, identifying underlying principles.
Classification Tests the candidate’s ability to categorize and group items based on shared characteristics or properties, requiring identification of the basis of classification.
Embedded Figure Assesses the candidate’s ability to identify hidden or embedded figures within a larger complex pattern, focusing on specific details and isolating them from the surrounding context.
Paper Cutting & Folding Evaluates spatial reasoning and understanding of how paper folds and unfolds, requiring visualization and manipulation of two-dimensional shapes mentally.
Pattern Completion Tests the candidate’s ability to identify and extend patterns in sequences of numbers, letters, or symbols, requiring recognition of underlying rules or patterns to complete the sequence.

Part – 2: Territorial Army Syllabus Elementary Mathematics

Subject Topics
Arithmetic Number System – natural numbers, integers, rational and real numbers. Fundamental operations – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square roots, decimal fractions.
Unitary Method Time and distance, time and work, percentages, application to simple and compound interest, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, variation.
Elementary Number Theory Division algorithm, prime and composite numbers. Tests of divisibility by 2, 3, 4, 5, 9 & 11. Multiples and factors, factorization theorem, HCF and LCM. Euclidean algorithm, logarithms, laws of logarithms, and use of logarithmic tables.
Algebra Basic operations, simple factors, remainder theorem, HCF, LCM, theory of polynomials, solutions of quadratic equations, relation between roots and coefficients. Simultaneous linear equations, set language and notation, rational expressions, conditional identities, laws of indices.
Trigonometry Sine x, cosine x, tangent x when 0° < x < 90°. Values for specific angles. Simple trigonometric identities, use of trigonometric tables, simple cases of heights and distances.
Geometry Lines and angles, plane and plane figures theorems on Properties of angles at a point, parallel lines, sides and angles of a triangle, congruency of triangles, similar triangles, concurrence of medians and altitudes, properties of angles, sides, and diagonals of a parallelogram, rectangle, and square, circle properties including tangents and normal, loci.
Mensuration Areas of squares, rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, and circles. Surface area and volume of cuboids, lateral surface and volume of a right circular area of cylinders, surface area and volume of spheres.
Statistics Collection and tabulation of statistical data, graphical representation – frequency polygons, bar charts, pie charts, etc. Measures of central tendency.

Paper 2. General Knowledge and English

(a) Part – 1: Territorial Army Syllabus General Knowledge

  • General knowledge including knowledge of current events and such matters of everyday observation and experience in scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The paper will also include questions on the history of India and the geography of nature which candidates should be able to answer without special study.

(b) Part – 2: Territorial Army Syllabus English

  • The question paper will be designed to test the candidates understanding of English and workman – like use of words. Questions in English are from synonyms, antonyms, reading comprehension, Para jumbles, error spotting, jumbled sentences, sentence correction and fill-in-the-blanks.
