In Indian Air Force Aeronautical Engineering is divided into two branches – Mechanical and Electrical. Mechanical Branch –
- Responsible for aircraft and its weapon system.
- They are responsible for operational readiness of aircraft.
Electronic Branch
- Maintain most sophisticated electronic networks of communications from ground to air and vice versa
- Install, maintain, operate defense radar systems and other electronic gadgets, sophisticated computers.

The Selection Process for The exam conducted by IAF for Admission into Aeronautical engineering courses.

Written Examination:
A candidate appearing for written exam is tested for English, Maths and Physics.
Physical Fitness Test:
After qualifying Written exam candidate has to appear for Physical Test ,They will have to cover 1.6 Km in 8 minutes. Those candidates who complete this test in less time will be given additional points.
Interview:
Candidates who qualify the PFT will have to appear for personal interview. after qualifying personal interview candidate is sent for the medical examination.
Medical Examination:
Here A candidate is tested thoroughly for his physical fitness. He is declared either ‘Fit’, ‘Unfit’ or ‘Temporarily Unfit’.
All India Selection List:
An All India Selection List is published on the official website of the IAF or the Airmen Call Centre. The Airmen selection authority calls those who qualify at this stage. Candidates have to report to the authority. They are issued enrollment by the Airmen authority.
Enrollment of Candidate:
After enrollment candidates undertake 26 weeks of training at the Belgaum at the Airmen Training School. Here, they undergo the JBPT or Joint Basic Phase Training. once the training is over they are again tested for TAT (Trade Aptitude Test). On the basis of candidate’s performance in the TAT, he is assigned a Trade. In order, to get a specialization in the TAT, which is assigned to candidates he is referred to the training institutions.
OLQ Test
OLQ includes the following tests
• Psychological Tests
• Group Tests
• Group Tests
• Interview
• Conference
All these above mentioned tests collectively are referred to as OLQ or Officer-like qualities.
- The Psychological test is a written test by the Psychologist.
- The group test include group activities where they are given various tasks to teat their activeness, teamwork and Leadership skills.
- a personal interview is conducted by the Air force officers.
