In the Recent Years, The defence forces of India have made major changes in inclusion of women in the defence forces. From the opening of New Sainik school for women to integration of women in the National Defence Academy. The Central Government is giving wings to the dream of girls to serve the nation by joining the defence forces of India. Indian Air Force is following the same path and more opportunities, roles and responsibilities have been added to the Female workforce.

AFCAT is a Most famous exam among the female candidates. The Indian Air Force offers a lot of opportunity for the girls in Indian Air Force making it first preference of majority of the girls who want to join the armed forces. In this article, we are going to discuss the opportunities that Indian Air Force to the female Candidates along with age limit, educational qualifications, Height and other important eligibility criteria.

Branches open to female candidates in AFCAT

Female candidates can become pilot by joining in the flying branch of Indian Air Force and those girl candidate who had commerce can  join the IAF in the Ground Duty Non Technical Branches.

Educational Criteria for Ground Duty Technical Branch

The Educational qualification are same for both Men and Women. Females can join Technical branch if they have done their graduation in any engineering discipline.

Mandatory 50% in Math and Physics at 12th Level
A minimum of four year degree graduation / integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering / Technology from recognised university

Cleared Section A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India)
OR

Cleared section A and B examination of Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies
With a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the following disciplines:-

Female Eligibility criteria for Ground Duty Non-Technical Branch

A lot of female candidates apply for joining the Non- Technical Branch. Anyone who had Arts, Commerce or PCM at 12th Level is eligible to join the Non Tech Branch in the IAF. We have mentioned the eligibility criteria for all the sub branches under the non tech branch below.

Weapon System Branch Mandatory 50% in Math and Physics at 12th Level with Graduation in any Discipline (OR) BE/BTech. Degree with 60% Marks
Administration Branch
  • Graduate degree with 60% marks or 10+2 with 60% marks required     OR
  • Section A & B exams of IEI or Aeronautical Society with 60% marks also accepted.
Accounts Branch Passed 10+2 and graduated with a minimum of 60% marks from a recognized university in:

  • B.Com (minimum three years degree course)
  • Bachelor of Business Administration (specializing in Finance), Bachelor of Management Studies (specializing in Finance), or Bachelor of Business Studies (specializing in Finance)
  • Qualified CA/CMA/CS/CFA
  • B.Sc. with specialization in Finance
Logistics Branch

Passed 10+2 and graduated with 60% marks from a recognized university in any discipline, or cleared Section A & B exams of IEI or Aeronautical Society with 60% marks.

Education Branch Passed 10+2 and post-graduation with 50% marks in any discipline, including integrated courses, and 60% marks in graduation in any discipline.
Meteorology Branch

Passed 10+2 and B.Sc with Physics and Mathematics or four-year Engineering/Technology degree with 60% marks in the specified streams.

Flying Branch criteria for females

To join the Flying Branch and become a pilot in the Indian Air Force. A Female should have done 10+2 in Math and Physics with 50% marks in both of them. It is mandatory for candidates to have a graduation degree in any discipline.

Height Criteria For AFCAT Female Entry

Female Candidates with the minimum height of 162.5 cm can apply for Flying Branch through AFCAT. For the Other Branches like Ground Duty Non Technical Branch, Ground Duty Technical Branch the minimum height for female candidates is 152 cm

Can A Married Girl apply for AFCAT?

No, A candidate should be unmarried at the time of applying the Application form of AFCAT exam irrespective of the gender.

Can a Female join the Permanent Commission in Indian Air Force?

Through AFCAT, Female candidates are only eligible to apply for short service commission in the Indian Air Force. You have to serve in the Air Force for 10 years with 4 years of extension if granted.

When will the online application process for AFCAT 1 2025 start and end?

The online application process for AFCAT 1 2025 will begin on 2nd December 2024 and close on 31st December 2024.
