As per the official rules, once appointed, an ALP is generally posted within the same Zonal Railway or Production Unit where they are first assigned. Your first posting will be in the Railway Zone/Unit under the RRB you selected.
Transfers to other Railways or departments can happen only if required by the Railway Administration (service exigencies), and it cannot be claimed as a matter of right.
Transfer requests can only be entertained (if any) after completing at least 5 to 10 years of service.
So, it means that transfers are very restricted in the early years; candidates should choose their RRB carefully, keeping in mind the Railway Zones that fall under it and the likely job locations there.
