Railway ALP Age Limit

The minimum age is 18 years, and the maximum age is 30 years as on 1st July 2026. Age relaxation is provided as per government norms:

• SC/ST: 5 years
• OBC (NCL): 3 years
• Ex-Servicemen: Service period + 3 years

RRB ALP Qualification

Must have one of the following:

• 10th Pass from a recognised board with ITI certificate in a relevant trade (e.g., Electrician, Fitter, Mechanic, Welder, etc.)
• OR a 3-year Diploma/Degree in Engineering

RRB ALP New Exam Pattern

The General Awareness Section from CBT 1 has been removed by RRB, and now there are only 3 sections: Maths, Mental Ability, and General Science. However, the number of questions, total marks, and duration remain the same.

RRB ALP Exam Language

The Computer-Based Test 1 and 2 will be available in English, Hindi and 13 regional Indian languages.

RRB ALP CBAT

CBAT is a psychological aptitude test designed to assess a candidate’s mental alertness, decision-making ability, concentration, and reaction time

• Conducted only in English and Hindi
• No negative marking
• Candidates must clear each test battery separately
• Must score a minimum T-Score of 42 in each test battery
• Failing in even one battery leads to disqualification

Railway RRB ALP Salary & Pay Scale

Assistant Loco Pilots (ALPs) are placed in Pay Level 2 of the 7th Pay Commission with a starting basic pay of Rs 19,900 per month. In addition to the basic salary, employees receive various allowances and benefits, which increase the monthly earnings to approximately Rs 25,000– Rs 35,000, depending on the place of posting and applicable deductions. ALPs are also entitled to several benefits, including railway passes, medical facilities, pension benefits, and other allowances as per Railway rules.
