These vacancies are to be filled in various departments/Organisation/institutions of Central Government. SSC Stenographer Notification 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must know the eligibility criteria required for the SSC Stenographer Grade C and D posts. It includes age limit, educational qualification, typing skill, nationality, etc. Check detials here.

SSC Stenographer Qualification (As on 01/8/2025)

A candidate is required to be at least a 12th pass from a recognized Board or University. He/She must be able to produce the required documents when asked for verification after qualifying for the SSC Stenographer Exam.

SSC Stenographer Age Limit (As on 1/8/2025)

For the SSC Stenographer Grade C Exam: Candidates must be between 18 and 30 years old. To be eligible, candidates should have been born not earlier than 02.08.1995 and not later than 01.08.2007.

For the SSC Stenographer Grade D Exam: Candidates must be between 18 and 27 years old. To be eligible, candidates should have been born not earlier than 02.08.1998 and not later than 01.08.2007.

Candidates can apply for SSC Stenographer 2025 only through online mode by visiting the official SSC website at https://ssc.gov.in or by using the mySSC mobile app available on the Google Play Store. The last date to submit the online application is 26th June 2025, by 11:00 PM. Candidates are advised to apply well before the deadline to avoid technical issues or delays due to heavy traffic on the website during the last few days. Fill out the form with personal, educational, and contact details, upload the required documents (photo and signature), and pay the applicable fee (₹100 for General/OBC; exempted for SC/ST/Female/PwD). Step By Step Guide to Apply For SSC Stenographer Vacancy 2025

Follow these simple instructions to apply for the Stenographer Grade C and D post Online:

Step 1: Visit the New SSC Website

  • Go to the official SSC portal: https://ssc.gov.in
  • Applications will be accepted only through this new website, not the old one (ssc.nic.in).

Step 2: Complete One-Time Registration (OTR). 

  • If you haven’t registered on the new SSC website before, you need to complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) process.
  • Old OTR credentials (from ssc.nic.in) will not work. Once created, your new OTR is valid for all future SSC exams on the new website.

Step 3: Fill Out the Application Form 

  1. After successful registration, log in and follow these steps:
  2. Click on “Apply” under the SSC Stenographer 2025 exam.
  3. Fill in your basic details, educational information, and other required fields.
  4. The system will ask to capture your live photograph using your device camera.

Tips for Capturing Your Live Photo: 

  • Sit in a well-lit place with a plain background.
  • Look straight into the camera at eye level.
  • Keep your face within the red rectangle shown on the screen.
  • Do not wear a cap, mask, or glasses.
  • Do not upload an old photo or a photo of a photo—this will lead to rejection.

Step 4: Upload Signature 

  • Upload your scanned signature in JPG/JPEG format.
  • Size: 10 to 20 KB
  • Dimensions: 6.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height)
  • Blurry or incorrect-sized images will lead to rejection.

Step 5: Pay Application Fee 

  • Fee: ₹100/-
  • Exempted Candidates: Women, SC, ST, PwBD, and Ex-Servicemen
  • Payment Modes: BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Visa/MasterCard/Maestro/RuPay Debit Cards

Important: If your fee is not successfully received by SSC, your application will be marked “Incomplete” and rejected.

Step 6: Final Submission

  • Before submitting, review your form carefully using the “Preview/Print” option.
  • Ensure all details, the photo, and the signature are correct and as per guidelines.
  • Submit the form and take a printout for future reference.

SSC Stenographer Application Fee

The application fee for SSC Stenographer Online Form can be paid online only. The application fee is Rs. 100 (one hundred rupees only). However, Women, candidates from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), and Ex-servicemen (ESM) who are eligible for reservation do not need to pay any fee. If SSC does not receive the payment, your application will be marked as ‘Incomplete’ and this will be shown at the top of your application form printout.
You can also check the fee payment status using the ‘Payment Status’ link in your login.

How to pay the Fee: 

The fee can be paid online only through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or using Debit Cards (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, or RuPay).

Last date to pay fee: 

Candidates can pay the fee online till 26th June 2025, up to 11:00 PM.

No Refund: 

Once the fee is paid, it will not be refunded or used for any other exam under any circumstances.

SSC Stenographer 2025 Selection Process

SSC or Staff Selection Commission conducts a Stenographer exam every year in 2 different stages, a Computer Based Test and Shorthand Skill Test. The candidate must qualify for both stages of examination to receive the appointment letter for the post of Stenographer Grades C and D.

  • The question paper will be Objective Type with Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) only.
  • All questions will be available in both English and Hindi.
  • There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer in the Computer Based Exam.
    So, candidates should answer carefully to avoid losing marks.
  • If the Computer Based Exam is held in multiple shifts, the marks will be normalized using a standard formula to ensure fairness.

  • The Skill Test will be held at the Regional SSC Offices or any other centers decided by the Commission.

SSC Stenographer 2025 Exam Pattern

According to the SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern, the exam will be conducted in 2 different stages to select eligible candidates. The first level is the Grade C and D written exam that consists of MCQs and is conducted online. Post this exam, an exam to test your shorthand skill sets in various domains. The various sections in the SSC Stenographer Grade C and D Written Exams are:

  • The question paper for the exam will consist of Objective Type Multiple Choice questions.
  • The questions will be available in both English and Hindi languages.
  • In the Computer Based Examination, there will be a negative marking system.
  • For each incorrect answer, 0.25 mark of the marks allotted to that question will be deducted as a penalty.

SSC Stenographer Shorthand Skill Test

  • Candidates who obtain the qualifying marks as prescribed by the Commission in the Examination will be called for the Skill Test.
  • The Skill Test will be of qualifying nature, and the Commission will determine the qualifying standards for different categories of candidates.
  • For the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’, candidates will receive one 10-minute dictation in English/Hindi at the speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m).
  • For the post of Stenographer Grade ‘D’, candidates will receive one 10-minute dictation in English/Hindi at the speed of 80 w.p.m.
  • The transcriptions of the dictation will be done on a computer, and the time allowed for transcription will be specified by the Commission.
  • Candidates opting for the Stenography Test in Hindi must learn English Stenography, and vice versa after their appointment. Failure to do so may hinder their probation clearance by the appointing departments.
  • Candidates may be required to work as English/Hindi stenographers as per the functional needs of the User Office, regardless of the medium of the Skill Test they took during the examination.
  • The Skill Test will be conducted at the Commission's Regional/Sub-Regional Offices or other designated centers as decided by the Commission.
  • Candidates called for the Skill Test will receive detailed instructions regarding the test from the concerned Regional/Sub-Regional Offices of the Commission.

SSC Stenographer Qualifying Criteria

The candidates will first have to secure a cut-off set by the SSC to qualify for the shorthand stage.

  1. The qualifying marks are different for the written test of Stenographers in Grades C and  Grade D.
  2. The candidates qualifying for the written test will be eligible to appear for the shorthand skill test.
  3. The shorthand skill test is qualifying in nature.
  4. The merit list will be prepared based on the marks secured by the candidates in the written test.

The SSC Stenographer pay scale is Rs. 9300-34800 (for Grade C) and the pay scale of 5200-20200 (for Grade D).
