What is the eligibility for IBPS Clerk 2026?

Candidates can check the basic and essential requirements as prescribed by IBPS for Clerk/Customer Service Associate post:

Nationality

A candidate must be one of the following:

  • A Citizen of India, or
  • A Subject of Nepal, or
  • A Subject of Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan Refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • A Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma (Myanmar), Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Qualification

The minimum educational qualification required for the post of Clerk is a graduation degree from a recognised University or Institute or its equivalent.

It must be ensured that the candidate has completed their degree and the result has been released. At the time of document verification, the educational certificates will be verified.

Computer Literacy (Essential for Clerical Posts)

Candidates must have computer skills, proven by a certificate, diploma, or degree, or have studied computer/IT in school or college. Proficiency in the official language of the state/UT where applying is preferred. Ex-servicemen without these qualifications should have at least 15 years of service and the Army Special Certificate of Education or equivalent from the Navy or Air Force.

IBPS Clerk Application Fee

How Is the Final Selection Made in IBPS Clerk?

To get selected for Clerk/Customer Service Associate post, candidates will have to go through the following exam stages:

Stage 1: Preliminary exam

The Preliminary Exam is the first stage of the selection process and is qualifying in nature. Candidates who secure the required sectional and overall cut-off marks are shortlisted for the Mains examination.

Stage 3: Local Language Test

Candidates shortlisted based on their Mains performance must appear for the Local Language Proficiency Test (LPT). This test evaluates the candidate’s ability to read, write, speak, and understand the local language of the state or Union Territory they have applied for. Candidates who studied the specified local language in Class 10 or 12 may be exempted from appearing for the LPT, subject to IBPS guidelines.
