Recently, ISRO’s RISAT-2 satellite, launched in 2009, has made an uncontrolled re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere.
Know About ISRO’s RISAT-2 Satellite
- RISAT-2 Satellite was launched on 20 April 2009(13 Year’s Ago) by a PSLV C-12 rocket following the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
- Though the initial designed life of the satellite was four years, due to proper maintenance of orbit and mission planning by the spacecraft operations team in ISRO and by economical usage of fuel, RISAT-2 provided very useful payload data for 13 years.
- It was India’s first “eye in the sky” to keep surveillance on the country’s borders as part of anti-infiltration and anti-terrorist operations.
- It was also used to track enemy ships at sea.
- The main sensor of RISAT-2, which was able to observe in all weather conditions day and night, was Israel Aerospace Industries’ X-band Synthetic Aperture Radar.

Elaben Bhatt, a legendary figure in post-independent India, passed away in Ahmedabad on 2 November 2022.
Who is Elaben Bhatt?
- The SEWA (Self Employed Women’s Association) movement pioneered by Elaben Bhatt was one of the most innovative and successful experiments in India in the field of social development.
- SEWA empowered women in India in the comprehensive sense of the term on a scale never witnessed before.
- It simultaneously provided employment to women and promoted cooperative production, consumption and marketing of textiles which constituted the core of India’s industrialisation.
- It also decisively influenced the course of trade unionism and labour movement in India.
- For her work, Elaben received numerous accolades and was conferred several national and international awards including Padma Bhushan, Magsaysay Award and the Indira Gandhi Sadbhavna Award.
- She was a Member of Parliament and of the Planning Commission of the Government of India. She used all these opportunities to bring about a structural improvement in the condition of Indian women.

- The Hundred Mile Principle involved the “use of products and services primary to life that are solely produced within a radius of hundred miles”.
- The Grahini Theory of International Relations combined such elements as elimination of poverty and deprivation as an essential requirement for establishing peace, a society free of violence and the need to bring nature into the peace process.
National Tribal Dance Festival

- The National Tribal Dance Festival at Chhattisgarh’s Raipur, which was to be held from November 1 to 3, has been extended till November 6 on public request.

- At National Tribal Dance Festival, nearly 1,500 dancers from across India and countries like Mozambique, Mongolia, Tonga, Russia, Indonesia, Maldives, Serbia, New Zealand and Egypt arrived for the festival.
- The competitions were split into the categories of ‘traditional’ and ‘familial’ dances, and each troupe participated in both categories.
- The objective of this festival is to protect the age-old traditions and rights of tribals and promote it across the world, as modern notions about development have harmed tribal rights and impacted nature.
