UPSC Eligibility Criteria 2024- Age Limit, Qualification

To choose officers for the central government, the Union Public Service Commission, which serves as the central recruiting body for some Group ‘A’ examinations within the Government of India, has set the date of the UPSC Preliminary Examination for June 16, 2024. Before enrolling for the UPSC IAS Exam 2024, aspirants must become familiar with the UPSC Eligibility Criteria to complete the UPSC CSE 2024. This article covers the entire set of UPSC eligibility requirements for 2024, including the educational requirements for taking the UPSC CSE.

UPSC Educational Qualification

We have discussed the UPSC educational criteria for appearing in the UPSC CSE 2024. Those who meet the eligibility requirements will be allowed to take the UPSC CSE six (6) times. As of 2024, the UPSC CSE Exam will have the following educational requirements:

  • The candidate must meet the minimum requirements for the UPSC exam, which include having a degree from a university recognized by the government or having an equivalent education.
  • Applicants can also take the UPSC preliminary examination if they are in their last year of study or are waiting on results. Along with their application for the main IAS exam, all such applicants who plan to appear for the exams must provide documentation that they passed the relevant exam.
  • Candidates whose technical and professional credentials are accepted by the government as being on par with degrees in certain fields.
  • IAS is also open to medical students who have passed their MBBS final year but have not yet finished their internship. A certificate of course completion (including an internship) from the relevant institution must be submitted with the Main Examination application.

UPSC Age Limit

The candidate’s age on August 1st of the exam year is taken into consideration by the UPSC while determining the candidate’s age eligibility for its exams. The UPSC test requires a minimum age of 21 years old to take. For example, a candidate must have turned 21 by August 1, 2023, if they intend to take the UPSC 2024 exam. In the same way, the same date is used to determine the upper age limit.

The official UPSC Eligibility Criteria will be released by the Union Public Service Commission. UPSC Age Limit for General Category

  • Lower Age Limit: Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Upper Age Limit: A person may only be 32 years old.

  • Minimum Age: Candidates must have attained a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Maximum Age: The upper limit for age is 37 years.

UPSC Age Limit for OBC Category in UPSC. Candidates belonging to the OBC category and intending to take the UPSC exam are detailed as follows:

  • Minimum Age: Applicants should be a minimum of 21 years old.
  • Maximum Age: The upper age threshold is 35 years.

UPSC Age Limit for Female

If you fall under the general group, you must be at least 21 years old on August 1st of the examination year and not older than 32. For example, your birthdate should fall between August 2, 1991, and August 1, 2002, if you’re applying for UPSC CSE 2024.

For UPSC candidates in the general category, the age limit is 32 years, whereas the IAS age limit is 35 years for OBC candidates. Conversely, applicants who fall under the SC/ST category must be younger than 37.

 

Age Relaxation

The UPSC Age Limit is one of the eligibility requirements for participation in the examination that applicants might obtain in the UPSC 2024 Exam. The table below contains the UPSC age-relaxation criterion for the reserved category, which candidates can review.

Eligibility Criteria- Nationality

The Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and the Indian Police Service (IPS)

  • An applicant must be an Indian citizen. For additional services, an applicant needs to be either
  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A subject of Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 to permanently settle in India, or
  • An individual of Indian descent who left Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and other East African nations.

Note: Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d), and (e) shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

UPSC Number of Attempts

Applicants can review the table below for specifics on the number of attempts. The general category permitted candidates to submit up to six attempts. While ST/SC candidates were not limited in how many attempts they may make, OBC applicants could make up to nine attempts.

Does UPSC need 12th marks?
