PM MITRA Scheme: PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks are to be established by the Union Textiles Ministry under its PM MITRA Scheme. PM MITRA Scheme are also important for UPSC Prelims Exam 2023 and UPSC Mains Exam (GS Paper 3- Developing various sectors of economy).
Recently, PM Modi congratulated Tamil Nadu for its PM MITRA mega textiles park under PM MITRA Scheme in the aspirational district of Virudhunagar. He further said that PM Mitra Park will boost the local economy and it will also be beneficial for the youngsters of the state of Tamil Nadu.
he Indian government has recently revealed plans to establish seven PM MITRA Parks in different states, including Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
The establishment of these parks will provide an opportunity to develop an integrated textiles value chain that covers spinning, weaving, processing/dyeing, printing, and garment manufacturing, all in one location. As a result, the logistics costs for the industry will be reduced.
PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks are to be established under PM MITRA Scheme. These parks will have following components-
A maximum Development Capital Support (DCS) of Rs. 500 crores will be made available for the creation of shared infrastructure for all Greenfield PM MITRA Parks.
The government has allocated a maximum Development Capital Support (DCS) of Rs. 200 crores for the creation of shared infrastructure in all Brownfield PM MITRA Parks.
The Union Budget for 2021-22 introduced the PM MITRA (Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) scheme, which is inspired by the 5F vision: Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign.
Core Infrastructure: Incubation Centre and Plug & Play facility, Developed Factory Sites, Roads, Power, Water and Waste Water system, and other related facilities.
Support Infrastructure: Workers’ hostels & housing, logistics park, warehousing, medical, training & skill development facilities.
