JEE Mains Exam Pattern 2020-21: Paper Changes
Following are the major changes that have been introduced in the JEE Mains 2020 by the NTA: –
- There will be three papers conducted for JEE Mains:
- Paper 1 for B. E/ B. Tech
- Paper 2 for B. Arch
- Paper 3 for B. Planning
- Paper 1 will now consist of 77 questions, and 25 questions will be asked from each section in the paper for a total of 300 marks. In the earlier version of the JEE Mains paper, there were 90 questions in total.
- Paper 2 is only meant for candidates aspiring for admission into the B. Arch courses. It will include 77 questions, and the total marks allotted for the questions is 400.
- Paper 3 will include a set of total 100 questions, and the paper will be set out for 400 marks.

JEE Mains Exam Pattern: Highlights
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is held bi-annually in the months of January and April. The novel coronavirus pandemic has caused havoc in the country which has led the National Testing Agency to postpone the JEE Mains exam several times. JEE Mains 2020 New Pattern
The National Testing Agency of India has modified the JEE Mains 2020 exam pattern, and there are quite a lot of advantages associated with the change. Read them down below: –
- The National Testing Agency will consider the scores out of the two best exams when they will be preparing the merit list.
- The candidates will not have to wage a full year if they happen to fail in the exam.
- The candidates can appear for the second session of the examination and thus get the benefit of not having to drop a year.

JEE Main Exam Pattern (FAQs)
Q.1 Is it compulsory for me to write all the questions from every section of the exam?
Ans. The candidates are not mandated to attempt all the questions from each section in the examination, but by doing so, he or she will increase their chances of scoring a higher percentage of marks.
Q.2 Is the paper conducted in any other language except English?
Ans. Yes, the paper is conducted in Hindi and Gujarati (in some specific locations like Gujarat, Daman and Diu) except English. The candidates can change the language in the settings at any time.
Q.3 Is it compulsory for candidates to attempt both the JEE Mains exam papers?
Ans. No, it is not compulsory for the candidates to attempt both the sessions of JEE Mains exam i.e. they are entirely optional. However, candidates can appear for both the JEE Mains exam sessions which are held in January and April because this can give them a real experience of the exam and help them do better next time.
Q.4 What is the exam mode of JEE Mains Paper 1 and Paper 2?
Ans. The JEE Mains Paper 1 will be conducted solely through an online computer-based mode. Whereas, Paper 2, Part-I and II (Mathematics and Aptitude Test) will be conducted via online computer-based mode and Part-III, that comprises of the drawing test will be held in a pen and paper mode. Candidates are not allowed to choose between online or offline exams.
Q.5 Will, it still counts if I change answers during the examination?
Ans. Yes, the candidates can easily change their answers at any point during the examination, and the new answer will be counted.
