UPSC CSE Prelims 2021- Detailed Analysis | Category-wise expected Cut-off in GS Paper 1

 

UPSC Prelims 2021 Expected Cutoff : UPSC CSE Prelims 2021 was conducted today. The UPSC CSE Prelims examination was conducted in two shifts. In the first shift, the UPSC Prelims’ first paper (GS 1) was conducted between 9:30 to 11:30 AM. In the second shift, the second Paper (CSAT) of UPSC CSE Prelims 2021 will be conducted today between 2:30 to 4:30. The first reaction from the Aspirants who appeared in the UPSC Prelims 2021 shows that prelims 2021 GS Paper 1 was slightly difficult than last year. Hence, expectation is that UPSC Prelims 2021 Expected Cutoff would remain low. Here, we would like to tell you that the cut-off of the UPSC Prelims 2021 is prepared based on the marks fetched by the aspirants in GS Paper 1. In the GS paper 2 (CSAT), candidates have to only secure minimum qualifying marks that are 1/3rd of the total (66.67 marks).

UPSC Prelims 2021 Polity Analysis: The questions from this section were easy to moderate. If your concepts are clear, you would find many easy questions like concentration of wealth, right to privacy etc. However, the paper also consisted of some moderate but doable questions like the questions on Indian Judiciary, federal structure, citizenship etc. Interestingly, the paper comprises some unconventional questions like the one on parole and judicial custody.

 

UPSC Prelims 2021 Analysis: Environment

UPSC Prelims 2021 Environment Analysis: The questions from this section were moderate to difficult. Following the trend, UPSC has continued asking in depth and debatable questions from this section. The questions on permaculture and savannah were in depth and could not be solved with superficial knowledge. The questions from this section were moderate to difficult. The questions on environmental organisations were highly influenced by current affairs.

UPSC Prelims 2021 Analysis: Geography

UPSC Prelims 2021 Geography Analysis: Overall, the questions from this section were easy to moderate. If you are good with the conventional areas, you would have marked the right answer of most of the questions. Questions on groundwater, black cotton soil, eastern ghat rivers were quite doable. However, the question on Indus-river was difficult and could be categorized into ‘not doable’.

 

UPSC Prelims 2021 Analysis: History

UPSC Prelims 2021 History Analysis: The questions from this section were moderate to difficult. The questions from modern history were less and were on a difficult side. Similarly, the questions on art and culture were difficult and they formed majority of the questions from this section.

UPSC Prelims 2021 Analysis: Science and Technology

UPSC Prelims 2021 Science & Technology Analysis: The questions from this section were difficult. This year also witnessed the questions about new and emerging technologies. Moreover, UPSC has found renewed interest on general science portion including physics, chemistry and biology—a peculiar pattern found this time. Aspirants are not expected to read about every technological advancement and that too in this much depth. Attempting these questions needed a good elimination technique. Those who possess it would have done well.

UPSC Prelims 2021 Economy Analysis: The questions from this section were easy to moderate. We can say this section was quite like Polity. If you are good with the concepts, these two sections were scoring.

 

UPSC Prelims 2021 Analysis: Current Affairs

UPSC Prelims 2021 Current Affairs Analysis: Who would have though that UPSC could frame questions from Olympics and Test Championship? After 2016, the weightage of current affairs is consistently decreasing and this year is no different. This year’s paper also saw less but difficult questions from current affairs. Moreover, the questions from current were inclined towards science and technology.

UPSC Prelims 2021 Analysis: Conclusion

The question paper was moderate to difficult. There were many new questions, however, it does not mean the aspirants should start reading everything. For example: Just because UPSC has asked two sports related questions, you should not start preparing 1-year sports news.

UPSC Prelims 2021 Expected Cutoff: As said earlier, the paper was difficult. So, if you are scoring 90+. DO START preparing for mains. For those scoring less than 90 marks, do not leave the preparation. No one knows about the cut-off. You have already seen the reduction in UPSC Prelims cutoff 2020 from UPSC Prelims cutoff 2019. So, take a brief break and start the next course of action.

Clear you concepts. Don’t just mug up facts and theories. The easy questions are easy only for those who are good with the concepts.

Learn elimination techniques. Don’t visit any random Youtube channel who claim to know everything about UPSC.

Do practice papers. This year, similar to previous years, contain some questions which was somewhere connected with the previous year.

Take risks: As we have already told you earlier, you must attempt more in these types of papers.
