Plan for Aspirant expecting to clear Prelims 2021 as per expected prelims cut-off
-
Don’t Waste Time after UPSC Prelims 2021
-
- Aspirants who are either clearing or on the borderline as per the expected cut-off, can’t afford to waste any time. You have already taken a break of two-three days and now it’s time to get down to business with full force. This is important as the gap between UPSC Prelims and Mains is very less, given the vast syllabus of the Mains examination.
- Even if, you have a minute chance of clearing prelims, you should not waste time. This is because, after the prelims result, you won’t get enough time for preparing UPSC CSE Mains exam.
- For example, many aspirants in last year’s prelims exam were getting less than 94-95 as per the answer keys of many esteemed coaching institutes who were predicting prelims cut-off to be around 98 marks. Many of these aspirants became hopeless and stopped their UPSC Mains preparation, resulting in poor performance in the IAS Mains exam even though they qualified prelims cut-off (only 92.25 marks)
- The lesson is that you should not give up early or you might end up wasting your precious time.
- This is why Adda 247 advises aspirants to gear up for the UPSC Mains Exam Preparation with full determination and efforts, irrespective of their marks in UPSC Prelims 2021.
-
UPSC Mains Answer Writing Practice
-
- As it is important to may MCQs in prelims exams. It is even more important to practice mains answer writing regularly and rigorously. This helps you manage your time better and also improve the content & structure of your answers.
-
Distribute an adequate amount of time for each paper
-
- Candidates often make the mistake of dedicating a large part of their time to one or two papers at the cost of others. This results in a good performance in few papers and poor performance in others, leading to failure of poor marks in Mains results.
- This is why aspirants should allot a proportionate amount of time to each paper based on their overall weightage and mark fetching potential.
- For example, Essay papers and Optional papers have better mark fetching potential in the Mains examination. So, you should invest more time in these papers.
- Similarly, GS Paper 4 (Ethics paper) carries equal weightage as other GS Papers but candidates often invest less amount of time for this paper.
- So, it’s advisable that aspirants should invest an adequate amount of time in each paper.

Don’t Waste Time: Start Preparing for UPSC Mains 2021
-
- This is the same advice as we advised people who are expecting to clear prelims 2021.

- Introspection means identifying the gaps (& not mistakes) in your UPSC Prelims Exam Preparation and based on that preparing strategy for the next year’s UPSC Prelims, Mains, and Interview exams.
