- India is expected to host over 200 meetings across 55 cities during its G20 Presidency.
- Union Tourism Minister Shri G Kishan Reddy while speaking at 10th International Tourism Mart (ITM) for the North East Region, informed that these G20 meetings are also proposed to be held in several states of north east.
Significance G20 Summit 2023 for Tourism Sector
- India will be soon presiding over the G20 from December 2022 to November 2023.
- The G-20 offers the best opportunity for India to showcase its culture, history and tourism potential and to position itself as a major tourist destination in the world.
- Among the G20 member countries, China, Mexico, India, South Africa and Indonesia are projected to expand their tourism industry post COVID.

International Tourism Mart (ITM) 2022
- Ministry of Tourism, Government of India is organizing the 10th International Tourism Mart (ITM) for the North East Region from 17th to 19thNovember 2022 in Aizawl, Mizoram.
- Objective of ITM 2022 is to highlight tourism potential of the Northeast region in domestic and international markets.
- The three-day ITM event will be attended by North-eastern Tourism Ministers, Seniors Officials of North-eastern states, State Governments, and Heads of the Tourism & Hospitality Associations.
- Mizoram is hosting International Tourism Mart for the first time.
- The earlier editions of this mart have been held in Guwahati, Tawang, Shillong, Gangtok, Agartala, Imphal and Kohima.
Importance of Tourism Industry in India
- Indian tourism industry contributes to around 4.7 percent of the country’s GDP and provides employment to around 31.8 million of inhabitants.
- If tourism’s contribution is increased to 10 per cent of GDP in India, it can create 26 million new jobs.
- According to World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), an investment of Rs.10 lakh can generate 47.5 jobs as against 12.6 in manufacturing.
What is International Tourism Mart (ITM)?
- The International Tourism Marts are organized in the North-Eastern States on rotation basis to highlight tourism potential of the Northeast region in domestic and international markets.
India’s G20 Presidency 2022-23
- G20 Presidency: The presidency of the G20 rotates every year among members. Presently Indonesia have the G20 Presidency.
- G20 Presidency 2023: India will inherit the G20 Presidency for the year 2023. India will assume G20 Presidency from 1st December, 2022.
- Significance: The G20 Presidency offers a unique opportunity to India to contribute to the global agenda on pressing issues of international importance.
- During its G20 presidency, India will hold about 200 meetings in 32 different sectors in multiple locations across the country.
India’s G20 Presidency Theme
- G20 theme: India’s G20 Presidency Theme is “Vasudhaiva Kutumba-kam” or “One Earth One Family One Future”.
- G20 Theme represents the India’s working on the vision of bringing the whole world together for a common objective, for a better future
- It will be India’s endeavour that there should not be any “first world or third world”, but “only one world”.
- Earlier, India working in the similar spirit launched-
- ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid’, has called for a renewable energy revolution in the world.
