Recently, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology announced that Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir is set to emerge as a prominent “power hub” in North India, with the potential to generate approximately 6,000 MW of electricity once the ongoing power projects are completed.

• In addition, the Minister highlighted that the excess power produced in Kishtwar would not only meet the electricity needs of other regions within the Union Territory but could also be made available to neighboring states.

Hydroelectric Projects in Kishtwar Region

The Kishtwar region is positioned as a significant power hub in North India.

It is worth noting that the most substantial power project in the Kishtwar region is the Pakal Dul project, boasting a capacity of 1000 MW.

• The current estimated cost of the project stands at Rs. 8,112.12 crores, with a projected completion timeline of 2025.
• Another significant undertaking is the Kiru Hydroelectric project, expected to generate 624 MW of power.
• The estimated cost for this project is Rs. 4,285.59 crores, with a similar completion timeline of 2025.

Kwar  and Ratle Hydroelectric Project Details

Another Project located about 43 km from Kishtwar is Kwar Hydroelectric project with a capacity of 624 MW.

• The estimated cost of this project is Rs.4526.12 crore and the timeline of competition is 54 months.
• About 25 kilometers upstream of Kiru Hydroelectric project is another Hydroelectric project Kirthai II Hydroelectric project with a capacity of 930 MW.
• At the same time, 850 MW Ratle project has been revived as a joint venture between the centre and UT of J&K.
• In addition, the existing Dulhasti power station has an installed capacity of 390 MW, while Dulhasti II Hydroelectric project will have a capacity of 260 MW.

National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG)

Recently, a 2–week 60th capacity building programme (CBP) for the civil servants of Bangladesh has conducted by the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

• Upon the successful conclusion of the initial phase of the capacity building programme (CBP), which benefited 1,500 civil servants, the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Bangladesh.
• The objective of the MoU is to further strengthen the capacities of an additional 1,800 civil servants by the year 2025.
• Notably, despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, NCGG has already imparted training to 517 officers from Bangladesh within the past two years.

NCGG’s Capacity Building Programme (CBP)

The aim of the Capacity Building Programme (CBP) was to equip officers with the latest knowledge in areas such as public policies, governance, technology utilization, and new skill sets.

• The objective of NCGG’s Capacity Building Programme (CBP) was to enable them to design and implement effective public policies and programs, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
• The Capacity Building Programme (CBP) of National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) was attended by 45 officers of 58th batch of civil servants of Bangladesh.
• So far, with the support of MEA and in close cooperation with the Indian Mission in Dhaka, NCGG has trained about 2,055 civil servants of Bangladesh.

The 3rd edition of the Khelo Indian University Games (KIUG) 2022 in Uttar Pradesh (UP) came to a solemn and dignified conclusion at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Banaras Hindu University (BHU) campus in Varanasi, India’s spiritual capital, through a modest and thoughtful ceremony.

Khelo India University Games 2022 Details

The Khelo India University Games 2023 is an event under the Khelo India initiative of the Indian government, which aims to promote sports at the grassroots level and identify young talents from all over the country. The opening ceremony of Khelo India University Games 2022 is scheduled to take place in Lucknow, while the closing ceremony will be held in Varanasi. The sporting events will commence from May 23.

• KIUG 2022 Duration: The multi-sport event, Khelo India University Games 2023, is slated to commence on May 25 and will span over a period of 10 days, concluding on June 3.
• Host State and Districts: The Khelo India University Games 2022 event was hosted in four cities across Uttar Pradesh, namely Lucknow, Varanasi, Greater Noida and Gorakhpur (Although the shooting events are to be held in New Delhi).
  • The Kabaddi competition began in Noida on May 23rd, 2023 while a few others began at the various venues on May 24th, 2023, as well.
• Participation: Around 4,000 athletes representing approximately 200 universities from across India participated in the under-27 category in the upcoming third edition of the Khelo India University Games.
  • In Khelo India University Games 2022, the athletes will compete in 21 sports with the aim of winning medals.
• Sports Village for KIUG 2022: The Babu Banarasi Das University in Lucknow was converted into a Sports Village for the duration of the Khelo India University Games 2023.
• Significance: The Khelo India University Games 2022 serves as a model for demonstrating the highest level of sportsmanship, courage, and glory, setting new benchmarks of excellence for athletes to strive towards.
