Recently, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has notified 31 Indian standards related to Ayush, which includes 30 herbs and 1 product (stainless steel neti pot). These BIS standards were recently published through gazette notification.

Steps taken by BIS for promotion of Ayush Herbs and Products

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the national standard body of India, mandated for the development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification. BIS has also created an additional department for enabling dedicated focus on Ayush at BIS.

  • The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has expanded its standardization efforts in India by establishing a dedicated department focused on Ayush.
  • This development aims to enhance the standardization process and support the Ministry of Ayush in ensuring the quality of Ayush products and services across various levels.
  • Additionally, BIS has taken the initiative to collaborate with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to formulate international standards.
  • Following BIS’s recommendation, a Working Group (WG–10) on ‘Traditional Medicine’ has been established within the ISO/TC-215 ‘Health Informatics’.
  • This step highlights BIS’s commitment to promoting and standardizing traditional medicine practices at an international level.

BIS is the National Standard Body of India established under the BIS Act 2016 for the harmonious development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

  • Parent Ministry: BIS functions under the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution.
  • Ex-officio President: The Minister in charge of the Ministry or Department having administrative control of the BIS is the ex-officio President of the BIS.
  • BIS Headquarters: BIS has its Headquarters at New Delhi.
    • BIS has also 05 Regional Offices (ROs) located in- Kolkata (Eastern), Chennai (Southern), Mumbai (Western), Chandigarh (Northern) and Delhi (Central).

City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain 2.0 (CITIIS 2.0)

Recently, under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has granted approval to CITIIS 2.0, which stands for City Investments to Innovate, Integrate, and Sustain 2.0.

CITIIS 2.0 Details

The CITIIS 2.0 program is a collaborative program that envisages to support competitively selected projects promoting circular economy with focus on integrated waste management at the city level, climate-oriented reform actions at the State level, and institutional strengthening and knowledge dissemination at the National level.

  • CITIIS 2.0 aims to leverage and scale up the learnings and successes of CITIIS 1.0. CITIIS 1.0 was launched jointly in 2018 by MoHUA, AFD, EU, and NIUA, with a total outlay of ₹933 crore (EUR 106 million).
  • CITIIS 2.0 is a program conceived by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in partnership with the French Development Agency (AFD), Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), the European Union (EU), and National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA).
  • The City Investments to Innovate, Integrate, and Sustain 2.0 program will run for a period of four years, i.e., from 2023 till 2027.
  • The funding for CITIIS 2.0 would include a loan of Rs.1760 crore (EUR 200 million) from AFD and KfW (EUR 100 million each) and a technical assistance grant of Rs.106 cr. (EUR 12 million) from the EU.
