Recently, India-United States Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS X) was launched at an event in Washington DC, USA. Shri Anurag Bajpai, Joint Secretary (Defence Industries Promotion), MoD, led the Indian delegation in the two-day INDUS-X event.

India-US Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS X) Details

The INDUS X event was co-organised by Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), Ministry of Defence, and US Department of Defence (DoD) and hosted by US-India Business Council (USIBC).

  • A reception was organized, bringing together representatives from the Indian and US governments, defense start-ups, think tanks, incubators, investors, industries, and various other stakeholders.
  • The event also featured a unique collaboration where Indian and US start-ups jointly presented their innovative technologies.
  • A total of 15 Indian start-ups and 10 US start-ups from various domains such as maritime, AI, autonomous systems, and space showcased their cutting-edge technologies to stakeholders from both countries.
  • The exhibition garnered attention from esteemed US officials, including Congressman Ro Khanna, who holds significant positions on the House Armed Services Committee and the Subcommittee on Cyber, Innovative Technologies, and Information Systems (CITI).
  • Additionally, Radha Iyengar Plumb, Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment at the US Department of Defense, also attended the exhibition.

The inaugural review meeting took place recently, focusing on the North Eastern Region (NER). Esteemed officials from the NER state fisheries department attended the meeting and engaged in discussions with senior officials from the Department of Fisheries (GoI).

The development of fisheries in the NER holds great significance, receiving dedicated attention from both Niti Ayog and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.

  • As part of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), projects worth Rs 958.26 crore have been sanctioned, with a central share of Rs 525.28 crore allocated for the period from FY 2020-21 to FY 2022-23.
  • Notably, prior to 2014, no specific allocation had been made for the NER states.
  • The NER has successfully achieved 72% of its total planned investment (Rs 1331 crore) and 68.39% of the allotted central share (Rs 768 crore).
  • The sanctioned activities encompass a diverse range of initiatives, including the establishment of new ponds, integrated fish farming, ornamental fisheries, biofloc technology, recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), hatcheries, brood banks, and feed mills.
  • These initiatives aim to enhance the fisheries sector and contribute to the overall development and growth of the NER.
