Recently, a meeting on Central Asian Flyway (CAF) was held in New Delhi by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme/ Convention on Migratory Species (UNEP/CMS).

  • The delegates also undertook a field visit to the Sultanpur National Park, Gurugram, Haryana, to understand the management of bird sanctuary and learn the best practices being adopted in India for management of bird sanctuaries.

Central Asian Flyway (CAF) Meeting 2023

The purpose of the meeting was to enhance conservation endeavors for migratory birds and their habitats in the Central Asian Flyway (CAF), involving the participation of Range Countries

  • Representatives from a diverse range of organizations and institutions attended the meeting. These included the Secretariats of CMS, AEWA and Raptors MOU, subject experts, as well as individuals from international and national non-governmental organizations and scientific institutions in India.
  • Additionally, Chief Wildlife Wardens of States were also in attendance.
  • The meeting was focused on the Central Asian Flyway (CAF) region and involved participation from 11 countries including Armenia, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Mongolia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Central Asian Flyway (CAF) Meeting Outcome

The delegates deliberated and agreed on an institutional framework for the Central Asian Flyway, discussed priority areas for implementation, and agreed on a draft roadmap for updating the CMS CAF Action Plan.

  • The meeting was a critical opportunity for CAF Range States to collaborate and exchange ideas and best practices to ensure the sustainable conservation of migratory birds and their habitats.
  • The discussions during the meeting also led to the modalities of an institutional framework mechanism with the aim of developing a coordinated approach to the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats.
  • There was an overall consensus in the meeting for further strengthening and formalizing  this initiative.
  • The formalization of the Central Asian Flyway initiative, was seen as a significant step towards the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats.

July 14 is observed as the National Day of France, commonly referred to as Bastille Day, commemorating a significant event in France’s history. This day is celebrated as La Fête Nationale or Le 14 Juillet in French. The event being marked is the fall of the Bastille, a fortress prison that was regarded as a symbol of authoritarianism and monarchy. The day holds great importance for the people of France.

  • July 14, 1789, is considered a significant date in French history as it marks the beginning of the French Revolution. On this day, Parisians stormed the Bastille, which was a symbol of the monarchy and authoritarian rule.
  • After being abandoned for several years, July 14 was officially declared a national holiday of the Republic on July 6, 1880, when the Parliament passed an act to commemorate the historic event.
  • The significance of July 14 lies in its symbolic representation of the people’s triumph.
  • This historic day was celebrated with immense zeal and fervor in 1919, following the end of World War I that lasted from 1914 to 1918.
  • Similarly, after the conclusion of World War II, the people celebrated with three days of civic festivities to mark the occasion.

the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is organising the Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela (PMNAM) on May 8th, 2023, in 200+ districts across the country.

The National Apprenticeship Mela (PMNAM) is being organized as part of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision to boost career opportunities for India’s youth under Skill India Mission.

  • The apprenticeship mela has invited various local businesses and organizations to offer relevant apprenticeship training opportunities to the local youth.
  • Numerous companies from diverse sectors are expected to participate in the event.
  • This platform will enable the participating organizations to engage with potential apprentices, assess their qualifications on-site, and enhance the youth’s livelihood prospects, all in one place.
  • Participation in the Mela will also enable candidates to obtain NCVET-recognized certifications, which will increase their employment opportunities after completing the training.

To register for the apprenticeship mela, interested individuals can visit https://www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in/ to find the nearest location.

  • This event is open to candidates who have passed Class 5 to Class 12, possess skill training, ITI certificates, diplomas, or are graduates.
  • Candidates must bring three copies of their resume, certificates and marksheets, photo ID (Aadhaar card/driving licence, etc.), and three passport size photographs to the respective venues.
  • The apprenticeship mela portal (http://dgt.gov.in/appmela2022/) provides information about the locations.
  • Enrolled candidates are advised to attend the event with all the required documents.
