  • Recently, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi attended the 57th All-India Conference of Director Generals/ Inspector Generals of Police in New Delhi.

  • Sensitive Policing: Prime Minister suggested making the police forces more sensitive and training them in emerging technologies.
  • Use of Technology: He emphasised on the importance of National Data Governance Framework for smoothening of data exchange across agencies.
    • He suggested that while we should further leverage technological solutions like biometrics etc., there is also a need to further strengthen traditional policing mechanisms like foot patrols etc.
  • Reforming and Strengthening Policing In India: He recommended repealing obsolete criminal laws and building standards for police organisations across states.
    • He suggested prison reforms to improve jail management.
    • He also discussed strengthening of border as well as coastal security by organising frequent visits of officials.
  • Cooperation: Prime Minister emphasised on enhanced cooperation between state police and central agencies to leverage capabilities and share best practices.
    • He suggested replicating the model of the DGsP / IGsP Conference at the state/district levels for discussing emerging challenges and evolving best practices among their teams.

All India Conference of DGs/ IGs of Police

  • The Conference of DGs/ IGs of Police covered various aspects of policing and national security, including Counter Terrorism, Counter Insurgency and Cyber Security.
  • Participation: Union Home Minister, Ministers for State for Home, National Security Advisor, Union Home Secretary, DGsP/IGsP of States/UTs and Heads of the Central Police Organisations/Central Armed Police Forces were also present in the Conference.
    • Around 600 more officers of various levels attended the Conference virtually from States/UTs.

  • The Election Commission of India (ECI) is hosting the 2nd International Conference on the theme ‘Use of Technology and Elections Integrity’ at New Delhi on 23-24 January, 2023.
  • ECI is leading the Cohort on Elections Integrity which was established as a follow up to the ‘Summit for Democracy’ held virtually in December, 2021.

1st International Conference of Cohort on Election Integrity

  • The first international conference of the Cohort was organized on 31 Oct – 01 Nov, 2022 at New Delhi.
  • It was organized on the topic ‘Role, Framework and Capacity of Election Management Bodies’
  • first international conference of the Cohort saw participation of nearly 50 representatives from the Election Management Bodies (EMBs) of 11 countries participated.

2nd International Conference of Cohort on Election Integrity

  • Theme: 2nd International Conference is being organized on the theme ‘Use of Technology and Elections Integrity’.
  • Co-lead Countries: ECI, as the lead for the Cohort on ‘Election Integrity’, took a collaborative approach and invited Greece, Mauritius and IFES to be co-leads for the Cohort.
  • Participation: Around 43 Participants from 17 Countries/EMBs and 06 participants from international organisations namely, IFES, International IDEA are expected to join.
    • The representatives from a number of foreign missions located at New Delhi are also expected to attend the conference.

  • The  President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu will confer the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, 2023 to 11 exceptional children in an  award ceremony.

  • Category: Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2023 will be conferred upon 11 children selected from all regions of the country for their exceptional achievement in the field of-
    • Art and Culture (4),
    • Bravery (1),
    • Innovation (2),
    • Social Service (1), and
    • Sports (3)
  • Venue: Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2023 will take place at Vigyan Bhawan tomorrow i.e. on 23rd January, 2023.

Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) Award

  • About: The Government of India confers the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) award to children for their exceptional achievements.
  • Eligibility and Category: The awards are conferred upon  children in the age group 5 – 18 years, for their excellence in six categories, viz. Art & Culture, Bravery, Innovation, Scholastic, Social Service and Sports, which deserve national recognition.
  • Prize: Each awardee of PMRBP is given a medal, a cash prize of Rs.1 Lakh and a Certificate.

  • Recently government informed that the first meeting of the Youth20 (Y20) (Y20 Group) is to be held in Guwahati from 6th to 8th February, 2023.

First Y20 Meeting 2023

  • About: This is the first of the various meetings to be held on the five Y20 themes across India in a run-up to the final Youth-20 Summit in August 2023.
  • Participation: More than 250 delegates from across the world are expected to participate in the 3-day event in Assam.
    • Over 12,000 college/university students are expected to participate in these events.
  • Themes: It will focus on five themes of-
    • Future of Work;
    • Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction;
    • Peace Building and Reconciliation;
    • Youth in Democracy and
    • Health, Wellbeing and Sports.

Youth20 (Y20) Summit 2023

  • About: India is hosting the Youth20 (Y20) summit for the first time on the sidelines of the G20 summit 2023.
    • Youth20 is one of the eight official engagement groups under the G20 umbrella.
  • Host Country: The G20 rotating presidency bears the responsibility of hosting the youth summit.
  • Youth Summit usually takes place some weeks prior to the traditional forum to know what the youths are thinking and incorporate their suggestions in their own policy proposals.
  • Mandate: Youth20 (Y20) Summit is an attempt to create a connecting point between G20 governments and their local youth.
  • Significance: The Y20 India Summit in 2023 would exemplify India’s youth-centric efforts and provide an opportunity to showcase its values and policy measures to the youth across the globe.
