A Teacher is that person who helps the student to become successful in life by imparting knowledge, skills, values, competence, confidence.

Today is Teacher’s Day and we celebrate this day to honor and recognise the wonderful work our teachers do. They Guide, work with us, inspire us, shape our thinking for better and open the infinite opportunities for the future. Without a teacher, we can’t imagine the world within and outside. India has commemorated the birth anniversary of the great Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan since 1962 to honor such wonderful teachers across the country. He was a staunch believer in education and was a well-known diplomat, scholar, President of India and above all, a Teacher.

When Radhakrishnan became the President of India in 1962, some of his students and friends requested him to let them celebrate his birthday. Mr. Radhakrishnan’s rejoinder to their call was, “I would be privileged if you celebrate my birthday as a tribute to all the teachers across the country, that is, Teachers’ Day.”

Qualities of a good teacher

The following qualities make a good teacher:

  • A teacher should have good reading and writing skills.
  • A teacher should make his/her conversation in a simple language.
  • A teacher should be an empathetic listener.

History behind Teachers Day

Teachers Day has been celebrated on the birth date of first Vice President and second President of India, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on 5 September every year. He was born in 1988.

Globally, Teachers Day is celebrated on 5 October every year but in India, it is celebrated on 5 September 1962 onwards.

Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was an educationist, Indian Philosopher, scholar. He had contributed a lot in the education system of India

Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was an influential personality. He was among one of the favoured personalities at that time. His students loved him so much that they requested him to celebrate his birthday. Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan said that he would be privileged if his birthday would be remembered as the Teachers day. His gesture showed that he had great respect for teachers.

Teachers day is celebrated to mark the hard work done by the teachers for the upliftment of the society. Teachers are the one who makes the generation well educated and skillful so that the nation can progress. They are the ones who can change the shape of the future of the nation. So teachers are of great importance for society. Teachers Day is celebrated to appreciate the work done by the teachers.

Teachers Day is celebrated in schools. Here many competitions are organized for this occasion. Dance competitions, poem recitations are also organized in schools. Here the efforts are appreciated by the teachers.
