Vande Bharatam Dance Festival: Vande Bharatam is an All-India dance competition. Vande Bharatam Nritya Utsav program remained one of star attractions at the national Republic Day celebrations at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. Vande Bharatam Nritya is important for UPSC Prelims 2023 and UPSC Mains Exam (GS Paper 1- Indian culture will cover the salient aspects of Art Forms, Literature and Architecture from ancient to modern times).

Cultural Extravaganza Vande Bharatam programme of Ministry of Culture remained one of star attractions at the national Republic Day 2023 celebrations at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. A total 479 artists performed under Vande Bharatam Program in front of the entire nation on the theme ‘Nari Shakti’. These artists were selected from a national level  competition.

During the grand parade, the artists, through their vibrant and energetic performance, enthralled the audiences and brought out India’s diverse cultural and artistic heritage in the true spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.

Who composed the Vande Bharatam Dance Music?

The music for the Vande Bharatam programme was composed by Raja Bhavtharini and Aloknanda Das Gupta and the composition is infused with Hindustani, Carnatic and contemporary Jazz elements.

Vande Bharatam Nritya Utsav 2023

Vande Bharatam is an All-India dance competition being organized as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75 years of independence of India. Vande Bharatam is a unique initiative of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Culture.

  • Key Objective: Vande Bharatam competition aims to select the top dancing talent from across the country and provide them the opportunity to perform during the Republic Day Parade 2022.
  • Participation: Over 2,400 participants from 200 plus teams were short-listed for the zonal level competition under Vande Bharatam Nritya Utsav.
    • Participating groups performed specially choreographed acts in various dance categories like classical, folk, tribal, and fusion.
  • Award: Winners of the Vande Bharatam Nritya Utsav will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to display their talent at the Republic Day Parade which is watched not only in India but across the globe.

Vande Bharatam Nritya Utsav Selection Procedure

  • Step 1: The Vande Bharatam competition began at the district level and saw the participation of more than 3,870 contestants in 323 groups.
  • Step 2: Those who cleared the screening at the district level took part in the state-level competition. More than 20 virtual events were conducted for the state-level competition.
  • Step 3: Over 300 groups were selected for the state-level comprising over 3,000 dancers/participants. Thus, the event allowed all aspirants to showcase their talent to win a slot at the National level.
