A candidate for the Indian Statistical Service must have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics as one of the subjects.   • The candidate must have a Postgraduate Degree in Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometrics from the university which is recognized by the government
  • The candidates who have attempted the final examination and are waiting for the result also can apply.
  • A candidate (fulfilling the nationality criteria) who has minimum qualifications but has taken a degree from the foreign university can also apply.
Indian Statistical Service
  • The candidate must have a minimum Bachelor’s/master’s degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics from a university that is recognized by the government
  • The candidates who have attempted the final examination and are waiting for the result also can apply.
  • A candidate who has minimum qualifications but has taken a degree from the foreign university can also apply.

Note: In exceptional cases, the UPSC may consider candidates who do not possess the aforementioned qualifications, provided they have passed examinations conducted by other institutions. The standard of these examinations must, in the opinion of the commission, justify the candidate’s admission.

UPSC IES ISS Nationality

The commission’s official notification has provided a clear definition of the nationality requirements for the IES ISS Exam. As per the eligibility criteria for UPSC IES ISS, the candidate must be one of the following:
(a) a citizen of India; or
(b) a subject of Nepal; or
(c) a subject of Bhutan; or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962, to permanently settle in India; or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia, Pakistan or Vietnam to permanently settle in India :

  • Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) & (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
  • A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.

UPSC IES ISS Physical Standards

Candidates applying for the UPSC IES/ISS examination should meet the required physical fitness standards set by the UPSC. They must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, 2024 as per Regulations given in Appendix III of the rules for the Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, 2024 published in the Gazette of India dated April 10th, 2024.
