Reently, Ministry of Women & Child Development invited nominations for Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP). The deadline for submitting applications for the PMRBP is July 31, 2023, and the only accepted method of submission is through the dedicated online portal at https://awards.gov.in.

The Government of India’s Ministry of Women & Child Development organizes the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) annually to honor exceptionally talented children who have attained remarkable achievements in areas such as Bravery, Sports, Social Service, Science & Technology, Environment, Arts & Culture, and Innovation.

  • About: Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is given as recognition to children residing in India, above the age of 5 years and not exceeding 18 years.
  • Associated Ministry: Ministry of Women and Child Development is entrusted with organizing the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar each year.
  • Award/Prize: Under Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, each awardee is given a medal, a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- and a certificate.
  • Significance: It is important to recognize such individuals and institutions as they help complement the efforts of the Government.

Rashtriya Bal Puraskar Eligibility & Application

  • Eligibility: Any child above 5 and upto 18 years of age, with exceptional achievement in the listed category/fields, can apply for the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar award.
    • Also, any person who knows about a meritorious achievement by a child can recommend this child for the PM Rashtriya Bal Puraskar award.
  • Selection: A high-level committee selects the winners of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar after careful consideration of each application.

The Second Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group (DRRWG) meeting of the G-20 Council concluded in Mumbai. At G20 India’s 2nd  DRRWG Meeting 2023, technical and functional level officials reached a consensus on recognizing the significance of Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and Financing for Disaster Risk Reduction as the key focal point for discussions on Disaster Risk Reduction.

During the discussions, the delegates emphasized the importance of establishing an institutional framework within the national legal systems of G-20 countries to support investments in infrastructure projects.

  • This framework would aim to prevent fragmentation and facilitate the implementation of such projects.
  • Furthermore, the delegates also highlighted the significant role of social protection systems in minimizing the impact of disasters on the most vulnerable groups of the population, which was a major focus of the deliberations.
  • As part of the conclusion, a side event on Eco-Based Approaches for Disaster Risk Reduction was organized by the NDMA, in collaboration with knowledge partners including the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), UN Major Group on Children and Young People, UNEP, and various other organizations.

  • 1st Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group Meeting:- Gandhinagar, Gujarat (30 March – 1 April 2023)
  • 2nd Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group Meeting:- Mumbai, Maharashtra (23rd May-25th May 2023)
  • 3rd Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group Meeting:- Chennai, Tamil Nadu (24July-26July 2023)

Recently, the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu interacted with Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) at the Mahila SHGs Sammelan.

The Mahila SHGs Sammelan event is organized by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) and the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

  • The gathering took place at the Birsa Munda College Stadium located in the Khunti District of Jharkhand.
  • The main aim of the Mahila SHGs Sammelan is to provide encouragement and inspiration to women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and other small entrepreneurs.
  • This event is organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) and the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC).
  • The President of India has graciously accepted the invitation to be the Chief Guest at the event, which was extended by the Minister of Tribal Affairs.
  • It is expected that the event will witness the enthusiastic participation of several thousand women SHG members.
