  • On March 02, 2023, The Raisina Dialogue 2023 will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Giorgia Meloni(Italian PM) will be the chief guest and keynote speaker at the 8th Raisina Dialogue.
  • This time, India will be holding the eighth edition of the Raisina Dialogue, which will take place from March 2 to 4.

About  8th Raisina Dialogue: The 8th Raisina Dialogue 2023 Will be Held from March 2 to 4. The Raisina Dialogue is India’s premier foreign policy conference.

What Is Raisina Dialogue?

  • Raisina Dialogue is India’s premier conference on geopolitics and geoeconomics, committed to addressing the most challenging issues facing the global community.
  • It is held annually since 2016 in New Delhi.
  • It takes its name from the Raisina Hills, where India’s seat of power resides.
  • It is organized by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
  • The Dialogue is structured as a multi-stakeholder, cross-sectoral discussion involving heads of state, cabinet ministers, and local government officials, who are joined by thought leaders from the private sector, media, and academia.
  • The Dialogue, since its inception, has attracted academics, scholars, researchers, students, journalists and even politicians who are either interested—or are working—in the field of international relations, geopolitics, security, nuclear issues and Indian foreign policy.

Social Stock Exchange(SSE)

Recently, SEBI has granted approval for introducing Social Stock Exchange(SSE) as a separate segment on BSE and NSE.

Background

Creation of SSE was proposed by union minister of finance and corporate affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget 2019-20.

What is the Social Stock Exchange (SSE)?

  • SSE is a separate segment of the existing stock exchange that can help social enterprise(s) to raise funds from the public through the stock exchange mechanism.
  • SSE will act as a medium between social enterprises and fund providers and that can help them to select those entities that are creating measurable social impact and reporting such impact.
  • Certain type of social enterprises i.e. not-for-profit organisations (NPOs) that meet the registration criteria can register on SSE and undertake to make continuous disclosures on their social impact.
  • Such NPOs may or may not choose to raise funds through SSE, however, would continue to make disclosures including on social impact to stock exchanges.
  • Social Stock Exchange identifies the following two forms of social enterprises that are engaging in the activity of creating positive social impact and that meets the primacy of their social intent.
    1. Not-for-profit organisation
    2. For profit social enterprise

Recently, the Cabinet Committee On Security has approved the purchase of 70 Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 (HTT-40) basic trainer aircraft (BTA) from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force (IAF) at a cost of Rs 6,828 crore.

About HTT-40

  • The HTT-40 is a turboprop aircraft, designed to have good low-speed handling for better training effectiveness.
  • This fully aerobatic, tandem-seat, turbo trainer has an air-conditioned cockpit, modern avionics, hot refuelling, running changeover, and zero-zero ejection seats.
  • The aircraft will meet the shortage of BTAs for training of newly inducted pilots of the IAF.
  • The purchase price will include associated equipment and training aids including simulators.
  • Being a fully indigenous trainer, the BTA is configurable for upgrades to incorporate the futuristic requirements of the Indian armed forces.
  • The HTT-40, which was designed, developed, test-flown and validated by HAL, contains approximately 56 per cent of indigenous content.
  • That will progressively increase to over 60 per cent through indigenisation of major components and subsystems.

Context

For the first time ever, the year long commemoration of birth anniversary of Sant Sevalal Maharaj, the Spiritual & Religious Leader of Banjara Community is being celebrated by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

Who Is Sant Sevalal Maharaj?

  • Birth: Santh Sevalal Maharaj was born on 15 February 1739 at Surgondankoppa in Shivamogga district of Karnataka.
  • Origin: Sant Sevalal Maharaj’s grandfather Ramji Rathod migrated from Chittorgarh region of Rajasthan as a trader and cattle herder.
  • Spiritual Guru Of Banjara Community: He is considered a social reformer and spiritual teacher of the Banjara community. It is believed that there is a population of around 10 to 12 crore Banjara community across the country.
  • Key Reforms By Sant Sevalal Maharaj
    • He travelled across the country with his Ladeniya Troup to serve especially the forest dwellers and nomadic tribes.
    • Due to his extraordinary knowledge, excellent skills and spiritual background in Ayurveda and Naturopathy, he was able to dispel and eradicate myths and superstitions prevalent in the tribal communities and brought about reforms in their way of life.
    • Among such communities, the Banjara community settled across the country with different names, have permanently abandoned their nomadic lifestyle and settled in their settlements called Tandas.
  • Revered Symbol: Sant Sevalal Maharaj is revered by around 10 to 12 crore people belonging to the Banjara community. In states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, Sant Sevalal Maharaj is a revered symbol of every Banjara family and in all these states the birth anniversary of Sant Sevalal Maharaj ji is celebrated with great fanfare in the month of February.
  • Samadhi Sthal: The Samadhi Sthal of Saint Sewalal Ji is situated in Manora Taluka of Washim District of Maharashtra at Pohradevi which is also known as Banjara Kashi.
