BPSC Selection Process 2024 Explained for Prelims, Mains and Interview

The 70th BPSC (Bihar Public Service Commission) conducts the Combined Competitive Exam (CCE) to select candidates for various administrative positions, such as Subdivision Officer and DSP, in Bihar. The BPSC conducts recruitment exams in three stages: Prelims, Mains, and Interviews. Prelims is a qualifying exam. Mains has five papers two are qualifying, and three are considered for making merit list. Candidates who clear Prelims advance to Mains and those who perform well in Mains are called for an Interview to assess their personal skills.

BPSC Selection Process 2024

The 70th BPSC selection process has some important updates this year.

  • The Prelims exam will have four answer options for each question.
  • There will be a 1/3rd negative marking for incorrect answers.
  • The Prelims exam includes one General Studies paper worth 150 marks.

For the Mains exam, candidates will have to take five papers. These include:

  1. General Hindi (qualifying paper)
  2. General Studies Paper 1
  3. General Studies Paper 2
  4. Essay
  5. Optional Paper

The General Hindi and Optional Paper are qualifying papers, each worth 100 marks. The Optional Paper will include multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

  • The First step in the BPSC selection process is the preliminary exam.
  • In the 70th BPSC prelims, there is a single objective-type paper, namely General Studies.
  • The maximum score for the prelims is 150 marks, and candidates have a time limit of 2 hours.
  • For each wrong answer, a 1/3 mark will be deducted.
  • If you provide multiple answers, it will be marked wrong and marks will be lost.
  • The BPSC prelims exam is only a qualifying test; its marks do not count toward the main exam or interview.
  • The commission sets the cutoff.
  • Question papers are available in Hindi and English, with priority given to the English version in case of confusion.

Ten times the total notified vacancies will now be selected for the Main Examination, replacing the previous method of selecting about 10% of candidates from the Preliminary Examination.

70th BPSC Selection Process 2024 for mains is explained below:

  • The main exam is the second stage of the BPSC selection process.
  • The BPSC 70th Mains exam has two parts: Compulsory and Optional. The compulsory papers include General Hindi, General Studies Paper 1, General Studies Paper 2, and an Essay. Candidates can choose from 34 optional subjects, and this choice is final once made.
  • The maximum mark for the BPSC mains exam is 1100, including qualifying papers as per the BPSC 70th exam pattern
  • Each paper will last 3 hours and is descriptive.

The next phase in the BPSC selection process is the Interview or The Personality Test. Candidates who successfully qualify the main exam will have to appear for the interview. The interview round of BPSC carries a total of 120 marks. This interview stage is conducted to evaluate the candidate’s general knowledge and job suitability for the post.

The number of candidates appearing for the interview is approximately 2.5 times the number of seats required. The final merit list is prepared based on the sum of marks obtained in the main exam and interview.

  • for Backward classes, 34% for Extremely Backward classes, and 32% for SC/ST, Women, and Disabled candidates.
  • All answers must be written by hand, with no outside help.
  • Answers should be well-organized, clear, and concise.
  • A simple calculator is allowed for the first General Studies paper, but not in the Prelims.
  • Candidates can request their scores by submitting an Indian Postal Order (IPO) of Rs. 5 per subject within 60 days after the final results.
