Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav Abhiyan- Context

  • On the eve of International Women’s Day, a landmark campaign ‘Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav Abhiyan’ was launched to bring back out of school adolescent girls to formal education.
  • The Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav program aims for a convergent approach between MoWCD and MoE with close partnerships of international organisations.

Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav Abhiyan

  • Organizing Ministry: Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav Abhiyan has been launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD), in partnership with the Ministry of Education and UNICEF.
  • Parent Scheme: The Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav campaign will be rolled out under the umbrella of MoWCD’s BBBP initiative by targeting more than 400,000 out-of-school adolescent girls as primary beneficiaries.
  • Funding: over 400 districts across all states will be funded under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme for outreach and awareness generation at grassroot level.
    • This is to sensitize communities and families to enroll adolescent girls in schools.
    • Anganwadi workers (AWWs) will be further incentivized for counselling and referring out-of-school adolescent girls.

Key Objectives of Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav Abhiyan

  • Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav Abhiyan aims to bring back out-of-school adolescent girls in India to the formal education and/or skilling system.
  • Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav also aims at enhancing enrolment and retention of girls between 11-14 years of age in school.
  • Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav intends to build on the existing schemes and programs like Schemes for Adolescent Girls (SAG), Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), and National Education Policy (NEP) to work on a comprehensive system for out of school girls.
