Indian Army Day is celebrated on the 15th of January, as on this day in the year 1949, the last British Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army handed over the charge to the First Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army Lt Gen KM Cariappa. This was a defining moment in Indian History when the handover of authority from Brits to India happened. Thus, to commemorate this watershed moment, Indian Army Day is celebrated. Indian Army Day has emerged as a sentimental day when the courage, contribution and sacrifices made by the soldiers of the Indian Army are remembered and appreciated with great dedication.

Grand Parades are organised across the country. In 2022, Indian Army Day was celebrated in a grand way at the Cariappa parade ground of the Delhi cantonment. The  Commander-in-Chief receives the salute of the parade thus, on 15th January 2022, Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane received the salute.
