1. Principal

Educational Qualification:

• You must have a master’s degree from a recognized university.
• You must have at least 45% marks overall in your master’s degree.
• You must have a B.Ed. degree from an institution recognized by NCTE and affiliated with a recognized university.

Age Limit: 32 to 50 years

2. PGT (Post Graduate Teacher)

Educational Qualification—You need either:

Option 1:

• A 2-year Integrated postgraduate course in the relevant subject.
• At least 50% marks overall.
• For SC/ST/PH/SEBC candidates, the minimum is 45% marks.

OR

Option 2:

• A Master’s degree from a recognized university.
• At least 50% marks overall.
• For SC/ST/SEBC/PH candidates, the minimum is 45% marks.
• The Master’s degree must be in one of the specified/relevant subjects.

In addition:

• You must have a B.Ed. degree from an NCTE-recognized institution affiliated with a recognized university.

Age Limit: 21 to 38 years

3. TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher)

You must meet one of the following educational requirements:

Option 1:

• A 4-year integrated degree course in the relevant subject.
• The course must be from an NCTE-recognized institution.
• Minimum 50% marks overall.
• For SC/ST/PH/SEBC candidates, minimum 45% marks.

OR

Option 2:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Arts or Science with the required/relevant subjects.
• Minimum 50% marks overall.
• For SC/ST/PH/SEBC candidates, minimum 45% marks.
• Plus a B.Ed. degree or 3-year integrated B.A. B.Ed. from an NCTE-recognized institution.
• Minimum 50% marks in the B.Ed./integrated course.
• For SC/ST/PH/SEBC candidates, minimum 45% marks.

Other requirements:

• You should be able to teach in both Odia and English.
• Computer knowledge is desirable (preferred but not compulsory).

4. Art Teacher

Educational Qualification:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or Visual Arts from a recognized university.

Educational Qualification:

Rules on Marks and Qualification

OAVS applies strict rules to the marks and the date of qualification. These rules decide eligibility at the time of document verification.

• The percentage of marks must be entered to two decimal places. Rounding off is not accepted, so 49.99% counts as less than 50% and 44.99% counts as less than 45%.
• Candidates with CGPA or OGPA must convert it into a percentage using the university norms and carry the university certificate showing the conversion formula.
• The date of result declaration or mark sheet issue counts as the date of acquiring the qualification. OAVS gives no relaxation on this.
• Degrees from universities outside Odisha need an equivalency certificate from a university in Odisha and NCTE recognition proof at the time of verification.

OAVS Exam Pattern 2026

The CBT carries multiple-choice questions with 1 mark each and a negative mark of 0.25 for every wrong answer. Part-I is qualifying in nature, and OAVS evaluates the remaining parts only for candidates who score at least 5 marks each in English and Odia and 13 marks in aggregate in Part-I. Candidates must report at the centre at least 90 minutes before the test.

The Principal CBT has four parts with 180 questions in 180 minutes. The final merit uses the marks of Parts II, III and IV with the interview, in a 70:30 weightage.

Important Instructions

The notification lists several conditions that affect every applicant. Candidates should read them before submitting the form, as OAVS can cancel a candidature at any stage for ineligibility or false information. The main points are given below.

• Candidates carry a printed e-admit card and an original valid photo ID (Voter ID, Passport, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Driving Licence or Government ID card) to the exam.
• Mobile phones, pagers, Bluetooth devices and other communication devices are not allowed inside the exam premises.
• In-service candidates in government, semi-government or public sector bodies must produce a No Objection Certificate from the employer at the time of interview.
• SEBC certificates must be issued within one year of the last date of application. Certificates in a language other than English, Odia or Hindi need a self-certified translation.
• Candidates with 40% or more disability bring their own scribe and receive compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination.
• Sportsperson quota candidates need the identity card issued by the Director of Sports, Government of Odisha, or the competent sports authority of their state.
• Canvassing in any form disqualifies the candidature.
• No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview, and candidates can answer in Odia or English.
• Selected candidates can receive posting anywhere in Odisha.
• The recruitment for TGT Social Studies, P.E.T. and Art Teacher posts depends on the final outcome of the pending writ petitions mentioned in the notification.
