UGC NET Exam Pattern 2021: Check Exam Pattern For Paper I & Paper II

The UGC NET Exam Pattern has been discussed on this page. UGC NET has a pattern of completing two papers, Paper I and Paper-II. The questions asked in both the papers are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) with no negative marking for wrong answers.

UGC NET Exam Pattern For Paper I

As per the NTA norms for NET Paper I, “The questions will be general in nature, intending to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness of the candidate.”  Check out the table that is given below for a broad understanding.

UGC NET Paper-II

As per the NTA norms, Paper-II will be based on the subject selected by the candidate in his/her Post Graduation and will assess the subject domain knowledge. Like Paper I, this paper will also be of MCQ with four options for every question asked and there is no negative marking for wrong answers.

In Paper- II there are 100 questions with 4 options each with a total of 200 marks to test the subject knowledge of the candidate. Even in Paper-II, there are 10 Units but the number of questions to be asked from each unit is not fixed. They may vary based on the latest updates in the syllabus.

Points To Noted For UGC NET Paper I & Paper II

  1. The questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) with four (4) options.
  2. For each correct answer, the candidate will get 2 marks.
  3. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers in UGC NET 2021 Exam.
  4. No marks will be given for questions Unanswered/Marked for Review.

UGC NET 2021: Marking Scheme

As mentioned above the UGC NET Exam comprises two papers, Paper I and Paper-II. Two marks (2) are awarded for every correct answer. There is no negative marking for any incorrect answers. The Paper-I and Paper-II consist of 300 marks in total and there is no break between Paper-I and Paper-II during the Online Examination. The candidates are shortlisted for the posts of Assistant Professors and Junior Research Fellowship(JRF) from the marks secured by the candidate out of 300.
