  1. Public Sector Banks are those financial institutions where maximum shares are held by the government.

The IBPS recruits candidates for the post of PO and Clerk to be placed in the Public Sector Banks. India has 27 public sector banks out of which 19 banks are nationalized and 2 banks that come under PSUs are State Bank of India and IDBI Bank.

SBI is the largest Public Sector Bank in India. It was established in 1955 with its headquarters being in Mumbai, India. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is the apex bank of India and the central banking and monetary authority. It was originally set up as a private entity in 1935, but it was nationalized in 1949. The present Governor of RBI is Mr. Shaktikanta Das.
