The AWES is an organisation under which there are 137 Army Public Schools across the cantonments and military stations in India. AWES was established on 29th April 1983. The Board of Governors (BOG) is the Apex Body of AWES. The Chief of Army Staff is the Patron-in-Chief of AWES and Army Commanders are the Patrons. The day-to-day work, in pursuance of BOG directions, is carried out by an Executive Committee headed by the Adjutant General(AG) and a retired Officer appointed as full-time secretary of AWES. Later they metamorphosed into the present-day HQ AWES under a retired officer of Major General rank.
