OTET Eligibility Criteria 2026

The Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) is a qualifying examination for candidates who wish to become teachers in the state. It is conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha. Although OTET is only an eligibility test, candidates must fulfil specific conditions before submitting the OTET Form 2026.

There is no prescribed upper age limit to appear for the exam, but applicants must possess the required educational qualifications. The eligibility criteria differ for Primary Teachers (Classes I to V) and Upper Primary Teachers (Classes VI to VIII). Paper-I (For Primary Teacher – Classes I to V) Paper-II (Upper Primary Teacher – Classes VI to VIII)
To be eligible for Paper-I, the candidate must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
  • Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed), as per NCTE regulations.
  • Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
  • Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
  • Graduation with a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
To be eligible for Paper-II, the candidate must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Graduation with a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a 1-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed).
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and a 1-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), in accordance with NCTE regulations.
  • Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor’s in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
  • Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 4-year B.A./B.Sc.Ed. or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed..
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).

How To Apply for OTET 2026?

The OTET 2026 application process is conducted entirely online. Candidates must follow the steps carefully to ensure successful registration:

  • Visit the Website: Go to www.bseodisha.ac.in  and click Odisha TET 2026 Online Application.
  • Select Paper: Paper-I only (Classes I-V), Paper-II only (Classes VI-VIII), Both Papers (one exam centre; separate applications get different centres)
  • Registration/Login: New candidates click New Registration, enter Name, Password, Mobile No., Email ID, and submit. Existing users click Login and enter credentials.
  • OTP Verification: Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile/email to access the form.
  • Fill Application Form: Complete six sections – Personal Info, Eligibility, Educational Qualification, Address, Information Sheet, Payment & Declaration. 
  • Review & Final Submit: Check all details carefully. Once Final Submit is clicked, no changes are allowed.
  • Fee Payment: Pay via HDFC Payment Gateway. Candidates are eligible only after payment authentication.
  • Download Acknowledgement: Save the receipt; it is mandatory to appear for the exam.

OTET Exam Pattern & Syllabus 2026
