CIHTS Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must meet the prescribed educational qualifications, experience, and other requirements according to the post they are applying for.
Professor Posts
- Candidates should generally hold a Ph.D. in the relevant or allied subject.
- A minimum of 10 research publications is required.
- Candidates should have a research score of at least 120.
- At least 10 years of teaching or research experience is required, along with evidence of guiding doctoral research.
- For specialised posts such as Sowa-Rigpa, Tibetan Traditional Painting, Rare Buddhist Text Research and Dictionary, additional subject-specific qualifications and experience are prescribed.
- The BRA Research Professor post requires a relevant Ph.D., 10 publications, a research score of 120 and 10 years of teaching/research experience. The maximum age for this post is below 65 years.
Associate Professor Posts
- Candidates should have a Master’s degree with at least 55% marks in the relevant subject.
- A Ph.D. in the relevant or allied subject is required for the applicable posts.
- Candidates generally need 8 years of teaching or research experience at the Assistant Professor/equivalent level.
- At least 7 research publications are required.
- The prescribed research score is 75.
- Specialised posts such as Educational Studies, Dictionary, Translation and Sowa-Rigpa have additional qualification and experience requirements.
Assistant Professor Posts
- Candidates should generally have a Master’s degree with at least 55% marks in the relevant or allied subject.
- They should qualify NET conducted by UGC/CSIR, SLET or SET, wherever applicable.
- Candidates holding a Ph.D. meeting the prescribed UGC conditions may also be eligible.
- For Educational Studies, candidates require an M.Ed. with 55% marks along with NET/SET or the prescribed Ph.D. qualification.
- For Liberal Discipline/Pedagogy posts, candidates need the prescribed postgraduate qualification along with B.Ed. with 55% marks and NET/SLET/SET or the prescribed Ph.D.
- Sowa-Rigpa Assistant Professor candidates must possess a recognised Sowa-Rigpa qualification and valid NCISM registration. No teaching experience is required, but 2 years of professional experience is prescribed and the maximum age at first appointment is 45 years.
- Posts such as Translation, Restoration, Rare Buddhist Text Research and Tibetan Traditional Wood Craft have additional subject-specific requirements.
Selection Process
- Candidates will first be screened or shortlisted based on the applicable recruitment criteria.
- Depending on the post, shortlisted candidates may be called for an Interview or Written Test.
- Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee selection or an interview call.

CIHTS Notification 2026 Age Limit
There is no general age limit specified for most of the CIHTS teaching posts.
However, specific age conditions apply to certain positions:
- BRA Research Professor: Below 65 years.
- Assistant Professor, Sowa-Rigpa: Not more than 45 years at the time of first appointment.
Relaxation in marks and other conditions may be available to eligible reserved-category candidates as per applicable UGC, Government of India and CIHTS rules.
