The UPTET Certificate Validity 2026 is an important factor for candidates planning to build a career in teaching in government and aided schools across Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET), conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), determines the eligibility of candidates for Primary and Upper Primary teacher posts.
With recent changes in the rules, the UPTET certificate is now valid for a lifetime. Earlier, the validity was limited to five years, but this update allows candidates to use their qualification anytime in the future without worrying about expiry. Understanding this validity is essential for long-term career planning, as candidates can now focus on preparing for recruitment exams and teaching opportunities without the need to reappear for UPTET.
What is UPTET Certificate Validity?
The UPTET Certificate Validity refers to the duration for which the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) qualification remains applicable for teaching recruitment in the state. As per the latest guidelines issued by the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission, the UPTET certificate is now valid for a lifetime.
This means candidates who qualify the exam can apply for Primary and Upper Primary Teacher posts at any time, without worrying about the certificate expiring. However, they must still meet other eligibility conditions set by the state government for specific recruitment exams.

Validity of Previous Year’s UPTET Certificates
Earlier, the validity of the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) certificate was limited to five years. The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) was required to take necessary steps for candidates whose certificates were about to expire. As per guidelines issued by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), the concerned board had the option to either revalidate the existing certificates or issue new ones. A similar decision was taken for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, where the validity of CTET was extended from seven years to lifetime.
This move was approved during the 50th General Assembly meeting of NCTE and has benefited a large number of teaching aspirants across the country. According to the official statement released by NCTE on 13 October, the lifetime validity rule applies prospectively. The council also stated that it would seek legal guidance and take appropriate action regarding candidates who had already qualified earlier and were holding TET certificates under the previous validity rules.
