What is CSIR Awards?

CSIR Awards & Fellowships Eligibility

Candidates holding BS-4 years program/BE/B.Tech/B. Pharma/MBBS/Integrated BS-MS/M.Sc. or Equivalent degree/BSc (Hons) or equivalent degree holders or students enrolled in integrated MS- Ph.D program with at least 55% marks for General & OBC (50% for SC/ST candidates, Divyangjan (PWD)) and CSIR Qualified.

How to Apply for CSIR Awards & Fellowships?

In order to apply for CSIR Awards & Fellowships, a few basic steps need to be followed as mentioned below:

  1. Candidates must visit the official website at https://www.csir.res.in/
  2. Then, choose the award or fellowship you wish to acquire.
  3. Every fellowship or award program has a designated page to it. Read the purpose and eligibility criteria for the same.
  4. The award or fellowship a candidate wishes to opt for will come with an application form.
  5. The form needs to be filled and receipt of the form should be duly submitted before the submission deadline.
  6. The candidates are required to submit 7 (seven) copies of their application form. In addition, an electronic copy of the nomination summary as per annexure-Ill must be sent.

CSIR Fellowships

  • CSIR Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Awarded to eligible candidates based on the UGC-CSIR National Eligibility Test (NET) to pursue research in various scientific fields.
  • CSIR Senior Research Associateships (SRA): Provides opportunities for experienced researchers with a Ph.D. or equivalent research experience to work on specific research projects at CSIR laboratories.
  • CSIR Young Scientist Scheme (YSS): Supports young researchers with Master’s degrees to conduct research in emerging areas of science and technology.

Difference between Fellowship and Awards

Fellowship funding is usually awarded for doctoral research based on the various specialized areas. It is merit-based, but generally not need-based. Fellowship funding is generally discretionary for student awardees to use as they see fit to support themselves while pursuing graduate study. They often come with a stipend.

Awards are usually based on merit and are sometimes need-based. They usually must be applied directly to tuition and directly related expenses, and do not include stipends.
