The apply link for BHU Ph.D. admission 2026 is active on the university’s online admission portal. Candidates need to register first and then fill in the application form from their own login. Banaras Hindu University Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria
To apply for BHU Ph.D. admission 2026, a candidate must have the required post graduate degree in a subject listed in Section B of the bulletin. A valid score in a national-level test is also needed, as per the admission mode.

Important Dates
The last date to apply online for BHU Ph.D. admission 2026 is 21 October 2026. The bulletin says the full schedule will be published separately on the university website. This includes the dates for document verification, interview, result and admission offer. Candidates should check the official website and their portal regularly, as the university will not be responsible for missed updates.
BHU Ph.D. Selection Process
The selection for BHU Ph.D. admission is based on merit, and the method depends on the admission mode. Every candidate has to appear in person for the interview.
- JRF and Direct Mode: Merit is made fully on interview marks (100% weightage).
- NET Mode: Total score of 100, with 70% weightage to the percentile in UGC/CSIR NET, ICAR-SRF or GATE, and 30% weightage to the interview percentile.
- Candidates called for interview (NET mode): Ten candidates per advertised seat, in order of merit. A department can call up to 15 per seat with approval of the university board.
- JRF mode: All eligible candidates are called for the interview.
- Tie-break: If two candidates have the same score, the older candidate gets the higher rank.
- Seat allotment: A candidate who gets offers from more than one department or location must pay the fee for the preferred one. The other offers are then cancelled automatically.
BHU Ph.D. Stipend
The bulletin does not mention a fixed monthly stipend amount for Ph.D. scholars. It explains that JRF holders receive their fellowship from the agency that awarded it, such as UGC or CSIR. The JRF must be valid on the date of application, but the university does not take responsibility for fellowship payment if the JRF validity ends before admission. Candidates should settle such matters directly with the funding agency.
- Full-time scholars may become eligible for the BHU Research Fellowship as per university rules.
- Candidates working in an externally funded project become eligible for BHU Research Fellowship only after leaving or finishing the project.
- Hostel is given subject to availability. Part-time scholars are not eligible for a hostel.
Documents Required for BHU Ph.D. Admission
Keep all documents ready in scanned form before starting the application.
- Post graduate degree and marksheets (both sides of the grade sheet if it shows the percentage conversion)
- Grade conversion certificate from the institution, if the marksheet shows only grades
- UGC/CSIR NET, JRF, GATE 2026 or ICAR-SRF score card or certificate
- Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS) in the candidate’s own name. OBC-NCL and EWS certificates must be issued after 31 March 2026
- Disability certificate in the prescribed format from the CMO, Civil Surgeon or Medical Superintendent of a government health institution (for PwBD candidates)
- NOC and work experience certificate in the prescribed proforma (for senior officials applying under Direct Mode)
