Steps to Apply for GGU PhD Admission 2025

Here’s the step by step procedure of form filling is mentioned below. Follow these steps to complete the online application process smoothly:

  1. Visit the Samarth Portal through the official website www.ggu.ac.in and click on the Ph.D. Admission 2025-26 link.
  2. Register as a New User by entering basic details and verifying your email/mobile number.
  3. Login to the Portal using your registered credentials.
  4. Fill in the Online Application Form carefully with academic, personal, and category-related information.
  5. Upload Required Documents such as photographs, signatures, certificates, and eligibility proofs in the prescribed format.
  6. Select Your Category (VRET / VRET Exempted) and choose the desired subject/department.
  7. Pay the Application Fee Online using the available payment modes.
  8. Submit the Form and download/print the confirmation page for future reference.

GGU PhD Fellowship

Full-time Ph.D. scholars admitted through VRET and not receiving any other financial aid will get a Non-NET fellowship of Rs. 8,000 per month with an annual contingency of Rs. 10,000 for Science/Engineering and Rs. 8,000 for Humanities/Social Sciences, subject to UGC approval. The fellowship is not a right and will not be given to candidates with recorded indiscipline.

VRET Exempted Category candidates are ineligible unless they later qualify the post-admission VRET, after which the fellowship starts from the result date; they must also submit an undertaking (Annexure-3) at the interview. Scholars in AICTE-approved Engineering/Technology/Management/Computer Science departments may receive the ADF 2025-26 as per eligibility and AICTE sanction.

GGU PhD Admission Eligibility Criteria

Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya offers admission to the Ph.D. programme under two categories—VRET and VRET Exempted. Candidates must meet the prescribed academic qualifications and eligibility norms as detailed below.

  • Master’s degree with minimum 55% marks (5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/DA).
  • Degree must be from a recognized institute or foreign institution accredited by authorized body.
  • For candidates entering after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s program, minimum 75% marks (with 5% relaxation where applicable).

M.Phil. Degree Holders

  • M.Phil. degree with minimum 55% marks (5% relaxation for reserved categories).
  • Degree must be from recognized/accredited institution.

Candidates exempted from VRET include:

  • Employees (regular/temporary/adhoc) of GGU or other institutions with valid NOC.
  • International applicants with equivalent qualifications.
  • Candidates with UGC-NET/JRF/CSIR-NET/GATE/CEED or those eligible under UGC fellowship categories (Category I, II, III) as per latest UGC notifications.

GGU PhD Admission Process

Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya follows a structured and transparent admission process for Ph.D. programmes, consisting of either VRET or VRET-Exempted routes. Admissions are carried out through two applicant streams:

  • VRET (Entrance Test + Interview)
  • VRET Exempted (Interview Only)

Admission process 1.Entrance Test (VRET)

  • The VRET is a 100-mark objective-type examination consisting of 100 MCQs.
  • Duration: 120 minutes.
  • Syllabus: 50% Research Methodology + 50% Subject-specific content.
  • Qualifying Marks: 50% (with 5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/Differently-Abled).
  • Candidates scoring above the qualifying marks are shortlisted based on merit and the number of available Ph.D. seats.

2. Interview/Viva-Voce

  • Shortlisted candidates appear for a personal interview/viva-voce to assess research aptitude.

3.Final Merit Weightage (VRET Stream):

  • 70% – Marks obtained in VRET
  • 30% – Interview/Viva-Voce/Presentation
  • Total: 100 marks
1.For NET/JRF/GATE/CEED and similar qualified candidates:

  • 70% – Normalized Score of the qualifying exam
  • 30% – Interview/Viva-Voce

2. For other exempted candidates:

  • 20 marks – Personal Interview/Viva

Separate Merit Lists

  • Final merit lists for VRET and VRET Exempted applicants are prepared separately for each subject, with an overall weightage of 100 marks.

Shortlisting of Applications

  • Applications for both categories (VRET & Exempted) are screened by the Admission Committee of the concerned department or research centre.
  • Candidates are shortlisted separately for the entrance test or interview based on eligibility and subject requirements.
