The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the General Duty (GD) Constable exam every year to recruit eligible candidates for various paramilitary forces, including BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, NIA, SSF, and Assam Rifles. SSC GD Exam Pattern 2026
The SSC GD 2026 Exam Pattern includes 80 objective-type multiple-choice questions for 160 marks, to be completed in 60 minutes, with questions set at the Matriculation level. The exam is conducted in English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages. A negative marking of 0.25 marks applies for each wrong answer.
Marks scored by candidates will be normalised as per SSC’s standard formula. Candidates are strictly prohibited from carrying calculators, mobile phones, and other electronic gadgets inside the exam hall.
SSC GD Selection Process 2026
The SSC GD Constable recruitment consists of four major stages:
- Computer-Based Examination (CBE) – Online written test
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- Physical Standard Test (PST)
- Medical Examination
Candidates must qualify each stage to move forward in the recruitment process.
SSC GD Exam Pattern 2026: Written Test (CBE)
The first stage of selection is the Computer-Based Examination, conducted online and consisting of four sections. The exam is objective-type with Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

Important Points From SSC GD Constable Exam Pattern
- All questions will be objective multiple-choice type.
- Exam Languages (15 Languages Total); The exam will be conducted in English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages, including (Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam,
- Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu).
- Negative Marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. Candidates should answer carefully to avoid losing marks.
- Matriculation-Level Questions: The difficulty level of the CBT will be Class 10 (Matriculation) level.
- No Re-evaluation: SSC does not allow re-checking or re-evaluation of answer sheets. No requests will be entertained.
- Normalization of Marks: Marks will be normalized as per SSC’s official formula to ensure fairness across multiple shifts.
SSC GD PET (Physical Efficiency Test) Pattern 2026
Candidates who clear the written exam appear for the PET, where running ability is tested.
For Male Candidates:
- 5 km run in 24 minutes, OR
- 1.6 km run in 6 minutes 30 seconds
For Female Candidates:
- 1.6 km run in 8 minutes 30 seconds, OR
- 800 meters run in 4 minutes
SSC GD PST (Physical Standard Test
The PST checks height, chest (for males), and weight criteria.
Male Candidates:
- Height: 170 cm (varies for categories)
- Chest: 80 cm + 5 cm expansion
Female Candidates:
- Height: 157 cm (varies for categories)
- Chest: Not applicable
- Weight must be proportionate to height and age.
