NEET 2026 Counselling Security Fees: How Much to Pay at MCC + Security Deposit Rules Explained

If you are preparing for NEET 2026 counselling, one thing that confuses almost every student is the security deposit and registration fee. And honestly, its easy to get mixed up because many fee charts online combine MCC feesstate counselling fees, and private college deposits all in one place.

Why Students Get Confused About NEET Counselling Security Fees

A big reason for confusion is that there is no single fee amount for all counselling types.

Some fee amounts belong to:

  • MCC All India Quota counselling
  • Deemed University counselling under MCC
  • State counselling authorities
  • Private medical or dental college state-level counselling

That means numbers like ₹30,000₹50,000₹1,00,000, or ₹2,00,000 may be correct in some counselling systems, but not all of them are MCC standard fees.

For official MCC UG counselling, the latest bulletin clearly separates fees into two main buckets:

  1. AIQ / Central Universities / AIIMS / JIPMER / AFMC / ESI / B.Sc Nursing
  2. Deemed Universities

MCC NEET Counselling 2026 Fee Structure

As of now, students looking for NEET 2026 counselling should follow the latest official MCC pattern unless a new bulletin changes it. Based on the most recent MCC information bulletin, the fee structure is as follows.

1) For AIQ, Central Universities, AIIMS, JIPMER, AFMC, ESI and B.Sc Nursing

UR / EWS Candidates

  • Registration Fee: ₹1,000
  • Security Deposit: ₹10,000
  • Total Payable: ₹11,000

SC / ST / OBC / PwD Candidates

  • Registration Fee: ₹500
  • Security Deposit: ₹5,000
  • Total Payable: ₹5,500

This registration fee is non-refundable, while the security deposit is refundable, but only if you follow the rules properly.

2) For Deemed Universities

For candidates applying under Deemed Universities, MCC charges a much higher amount.

  • Registration Fee: ₹5,000
  • Security Deposit: ₹2,00,000
  • Total Payable: ₹2,05,000

Here too, the registration fee is non-refundable, and the ₹2 lakh security deposit is refundable only if counselling rules are followed.

Is the MCC Security Deposit Refundable?

Yes, the MCC security deposit is refundable, but not instantly. MCC says the security amount is refunded only after completion of all counselling rounds. After counselling officially closes, the refund process is initiated by the financial custodian. The latest bulletin says refund initiation begins within 15 days of MCC’s completion notice, and the process is to be completed within 30 days of that notice. So yes, you usually get the money back, but not right away.

When Will You Lose the Security Deposit?

According to the official MCC rules, the security deposit can be forfeited in situations like these:

  • You are allotted a seat in Round 2 or later rounds and do not join
  • Your admission gets cancelled because of wrong information
  • You fail to produce required documents while reporting
  • You get a seat in the final stray vacancy round and do not join
  • In later rounds, if you try to exit where exit is not allowed, you can lose the deposit too

Is the Registration Fee Refundable?

No. The registration fee is non-refundable.

That means:

  • ₹1,000 for UR/EWS in AIQ-type counselling is not refunded
  • ₹500 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD in AIQ-type counselling is not refunded
  • ₹5,000 for Deemed University counselling is also not refunded

A lot of students confuse registration fee with security deposit, but both are not the same thing.

What If You Apply for Both Government Seats and Deemed Universities?

If you want to participate in counselling where Deemed Universities are included, then normally you pay the higher applicable amount.

In practical terms, if you choose the deemed option, you should be ready for the ₹2,05,000 total payment at registration stage. That includes the ₹5,000 non-refundable fee and ₹2,00,000 refundable security deposit. The older MCC pattern also reflects this same structure.

Important Refund Rules Students Should Remember

Before paying anything, keep these small but important points in mind:

  • Refund goes to the same payment: MCC mentions that the refund is sent back to the same account or card used during payment. So don’t close that bank account or card too early.
  • Refund happens after all rounds end: Students should not expect the security amount during Round 1 or Round 2. It comes after counselling is fully completed.
  • Wrong details can cost you money: If your admission is cancelled because you entered wrong information or failed verification, the deposit can be forfeited. So always fill in the details carefully, even if you are in a hurry.
