Nowadays not only in chemistry but also in different research aspects in science periodic table is broadly used. In 1869, Dmitri Mendeleev first introduced the periodic table, named Mendeleev periodic table. The Father of the periodic table is referred to as him. What is an atomic number of an element?

Atomic number refers to the number of a chemical element in the periodic table, by which elements is are arranged on the basis of an increasing number of protons in the nucleus of the atom. The number of protons in the nucleus is equal to the number of electrons in the neutral atom, this is also known as the atomic number.

For example – In an   Oxygen atom has  8 protons in the nucleus and  8 electrons in the neutral atom .so, atomic number of oxygen is 8.
