UP TGT PGT Salary 2026: In-Hand Salary, Pay Level, DA 60%, HRA & Allowances

A newly appointed UP TGT starts at a basic pay of ₹44,900 (Pay Level 7). A UP PGT starts at ₹47,600 (Pay Level 8). With Dearness Allowance (DA) at 60% from 1 January 2026, basic pay plus DA alone comes to ₹71,840 for a TGT and ₹76,160 for a PGT. UP TGT PGT Salary & Grade Pay

Under the 6th Pay Commission, both posts sat in Pay Band-2 (₹9,300–34,800), with Grade Pay of ₹4,600 for TGT and ₹4,800 for PGT. The 7th Pay Commission replaced grade pay with pay levels: TGT moved to Level 7 and PGT to Level 8.

The new starting basic was found by multiplying the old entry pay by the index for that level (2.62) and rounding to the pay matrix.

On the basis of the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix, PGTs are entitled to 4800 pay grades (47600-151100) (Level 8). As per the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix, a Level-8 employee will get a salary from Rs 47,600 to Rs 151,100. It means that after selection, the candidate will get a starting salary of Rs 47,600 plus Dearness Allowance (DA) and other allowances.

UP TGT PGT Salary: Promotion and the 8th Pay Commission

The probation period and its conditions are stated in the appointment letter issued after selection. Salary is paid at the full starting basic during probation.

TGTs can move up to PGT (Lecturer) posts through the promotion quota, and experienced PGTs can apply for Principal and Headmaster posts recruited by UPESSC. Pay increases each year through the fixed 3% increment, not through performance ratings.

The Centre has set up the 8th Pay Commission. Uttar Pradesh usually adopts central pay revisions later through its own order, so UP teachers’ pay matrix would change only after that state decision.
