Eligibility & Educational Qualification Criteria

Before applying, candidates must ensure they meet the eligibility and educational qualification requirements as prescribed by MGCU and UGC.

Eligibility Criteria 

Admission is based on UGC-NET/GATE/GPAT scores under three categories:

• Category 1: Ph.D. with JRF + Assistant Professor eligibility
• Category 2: Ph.D. without JRF + Assistant Professor eligibility
• Category 3: Ph.D. only (no JRF/Assistant Professor)
• Candidates with valid JRF prior to 2025 are eligible.
• For Category 2 & 3, qualifying in UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR Dec 2024/June 2025 cycles or equivalent tests is mandatory.
• Candidates who have NET only before Dec 2024 are not eligible.
• 5% relaxation in marks/grade applies to SC/ST/OBC-NCL/Differently-Abled/EWS and other categories.
• All eligibility conditions must be fulfilled by the last date of application.

How to Apply for MGCU PhD Programme 2025

Interested and eligible candidates can apply online for the MGCU Ph.D. Programmes through the SAMARTH Portal between 24 November 2025 and 26 December 2025. The application process involves the following steps:

• Visit the SAMARTH Portal for MGCU Ph.D. admissions at: https://mgcubadm.samarth.edu.in.
• Register on the Portal: Create a new account using a valid email ID and mobile number.

MGCU PhD Selection Process

Admission to MGCU Ph.D. Programmes will be based on a combined merit of valid test scores and interview performance. Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview conducted by the respective Departments.

Admission to all Ph.D. Programmes (Categories 1, 2 & 3) will be based on combined merit:

• 70% weightage: Valid test scores (UGC-NET/GATE/GPAT or equivalent)
• 30% weightage: Interview performance
• Interview Eligibility: Only candidates who have submitted the online application and are shortlisted will be called for the interview.
• Interview Venue: Conducted in the respective Departments of MGCU.
