DU PhD Admission Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for admission to the Delhi University PhD Programme 2025-26 are based on the latest UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of PhD Degree) Regulations.

Academic Qualification:

• Candidates must hold either:

  • A 1-year (2-semester) Master’s degree after a 4-year Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A 2-year (4-semester) Master’s degree after a 3-year Bachelor’s degree, or
  • Equivalent qualifications recognized by statutory regulatory bodies.
• Minimum 55% aggregate marks or equivalent grade required.
• 5% relaxation in marks will be given to candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), EWS, and PwBD categories.

For candidates applying directly after a 4-year Bachelor’s program:

• A minimum of 75% aggregate marks or equivalent grade is required.
• A 5% relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per UGC norms.

Delhi University PhD Selection Process

The selection process for DU PhD Admission 2025-26 includes the following stages:

• Screening Based on NET Scores: Candidates who qualified in UGC NET / CSIR NET / GATE / CEED or equivalent national-level exams will be shortlisted for the interview round.

  • Female PhD scholars and candidates with disabilities (over 40%) may receive an additional 2-year extension, making the maximum limit 10 years.
  • Maternity/Child Care Leave up to 240 days is allowed during the program duration.
