BHU P.hD. Notification 2025 Out

Banaras Hindu University has officially released the Ph.D. Admission Notification 2025. The registration process will be conducted online, and candidates can apply from 3 December to 16 December 2025. BHU PhD Eligibility Criteria

Banaras Hindu University offers PhD admission through three major modes i.e. JRF Mode, NET Mode, and Direct Admission. Each mode has specific eligibility requirements based on academic qualifications, fellowships, professional experience, or special categories. The table below presents a simplified and reader-friendly breakdown of these eligibility conditions.

JRF Mode
  • Must hold a valid JRF from UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DBT or any other national agency.
  • Candidates qualified only for Assistant Professorship or PhD (without JRF) are not eligible.
  • DST-INSPIRE (non-JRF) candidates are not eligible for this mode.
  • Must present a valid JRF certificate during physical document verification.
NET Mode
  • Must have qualified UGC/CSIR NET December 2024 or NET June 2025 in:
    • Category 1: JRF
    • Category 2: Assistant Professorship only
    • Category 3: Eligible for PhD only
  • For Institute of Agricultural Sciences, admission is based on ICAR-SRF (PhD) 2025 score instead of NET.
Direct Admission (Scholarship Route)
  • Candidate must hold a national or international PhD scholarship whose value is equal to or higher than UGC/CSIR JRF or ICAR-SRF (PhD).
  • Admission is granted under supernumerary quota (additional seats, not part of regular intake).
Direct Admission (Senior Management Route) Candidate must:

  • Hold a senior management position in Govt./PSU/Reputed Private Industry, equivalent to Level-12 (7th CPC).
  • Be employed in an organization not recognized as a research centre by BHU.
  • Have 12+ years of professional experience.
  • Be at least 43 years old.
  • Be officially sponsored as a part-time candidate by the employer.
  • Meet DRC’s requirement ensuring feasibility of research alongside job.
  • Complete 45 days of mandatory residency on campus every academic year.
  • Submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and Work Experience Certificate.

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) offers admission to its PhD programmes through multiple pathways designed to accommodate diverse academic backgrounds and professional profiles. The admission process is governed by the official PhD Ordinance and varies across different departments and institutes. Below is a detailed and structured overview of all three modes of admission i.e. JRF Mode, NET Mode, and Direct Admission along with eligibility norms and important conditions.

  • – Proof of scholarship amount and duration.
  • – Fellowships below JRF value.
  • – Scholarships from unverified/unrecognized sources.
Direct Admission Category (ii)
Senior Management Professionals
Professionals from government/public sector/private industry at top management positions
  • – Must hold senior management post equivalent to Pay Matrix Level-12 (7th CPC).
  • – Organization should NOT be recognized as a research centre by BHU.
  • – Minimum 12 years professional experience.
  • – Minimum 43 years of age.
  • – Must be sponsored as a part-time candidate.

  • – Must publish at least one research paper in a reputed journal after joining the project, based on project work; OR
  • – Must get shortlisted under JRF/NET Mode.
  • – At least one year tenure must remain in the project at the time of application.
  • – Overlap of project and PhD work must be certified.

  • – Consent from supervisor (if different from PI).

  • – PG medical degree certificate.
  • – MCI/NMC registration proof.
  • – PG degrees outside medical domain.
  • – Candidates without required medical council registration.
General Notes for Direct Admission Applies to all Direct Mode categories
  • – Applications must be routed through proper channel.
  • – Admissions under categories (i)(v) are supernumerary.
  • – Not counted in advertised seats for 202526.
  • – Require recommendation of DRC/CRC/SRC and approval of Vice Chancellor.

BHU Ph.D. Merit List Calculation

The final merit list of BHU P.h.D will be prepared out of 100 marks

  • For the JRF mode, will be based on merit, with 100% weightage given to the percentile score computed from interview.
  • For NET, 70% weight of the NET Percentile given by UGC/CSIR and 30% weightage of the Interview Percentile calculated by the University.
