The capital and largest city of the Indian state of Telangana is Hyderabad. On the Deccan Plateau, it covers 650 square kilometres. The President of India’s winter office has been in Hyderabad since 1956.

The Mughal Empire faded in the Deccan, and the Nizam’s patronage had drawn men of letters from all over the world, and the combination of native and migrant artisans had created a distinct culture, establishing the city as an important focus of oriental culture.
