Nationality
The applicant for applying for the exam can be:
- A Citizen of India
- The subject of Nepal or Bhutan
- A Tibetan refugee who permanently settled in India before January 1, 1962
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Zaire, or Zambia, intending to reside in India permanently.
Educational Qualification
Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Government of India.
- Applicants must possess a valid mark sheet or degree certificate proving their graduate status on the day of registration and must provide the percentage of marks obtained in their graduation while registering for the IBPS Bank-PO exam.
Computer Literacy:
Proficiency in computer systems is essential both for the job and for taking the IBPS PO exam, which is conducted online.

IBPS PO Exam Number of Attempts
There is no specific restriction on the number of times you can appear for the IBPS PO Exam, provided you meet the eligibility criteria, particularly the age requirement. This means you can take the exam multiple times until you reach the upper age limit.
IBPS PO Selection Process 2026
The IBPS PO recruitment process consists of three stages:
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination
Candidates must qualify the sectional and overall cutoff to be shortlisted for the Mains Examination.
Stage 2: Main Examination
The Mains Exam carries significant weight in the final selection process and includes both objective and descriptive tests.
Stage 3: Interview
Candidates qualifying the Mains Exam are called for the Interview round conducted by participating banks. The final merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the Mains Examination and Interview.
IBPS PO Revised Exam Pattern 2026
As per the IBPS PO selection process, the final selection is based on the marks scored in the Main examination and the Interview. IBPS revised the Prelims exam pattern last year and this year Mains pattern has been changed. Check the latest exam pattern below.
IBPS PO Prelims Exam Pattern
The Prelims comprises three sections, including English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability. A total of 100 questions are asked for 100 marks, with a duration of 60 minutes. There is a negative marking of -0.25 deducted for each incorrect attempt.

IBPS PO Mains Exam Pattern (Latest)
The Mains exam pattern has been slightly changed by IBPS. Marks allotted to GA, English, and DI sections have been increased and now total number of questions is 170 (increased from 145). The descriptive pattern remains the same.

IBPS PO Personality Test + Interview (Final Stage)
The Personality Test (self report) is conducted to assess a candidate’s behavioural traits, communication skills, leadership qualities, decision-making ability, and suitability for a role in the banking sector.
Candidates who qualify for the Personality Test will be called for the Interview, which is conducted for 100 marks. The final score obtained by candidates in the exam is calculated by IBPS with the weightage of marks given to the main examination and interview ratio of 80:20, respectively.

IBPS PO Salary 2026
Selected candidates will be appointed as Probationary Officers in participating public sector banks. The revised pay scale for IBPS PO is approximately ₹48,480 – ₹85,920, along with various allowances such as DA, HRA, CCA, medical benefits, and other perks.
IBPS PO Probation Period
Candidates appointed as IBPS Probationary Officers (POs) are generally required to undergo a probation period of 2 years. During this period, officers receive on-the-job training, learn various banking operations, and their performance is regularly evaluated before they are confirmed as permanent employees.

IBPS PO Admit Card 2026
The admit card will be released online by the IBPS on its official website for candidates who successfully complete the application process. The call letter is expected to be available 7–10 days before the Prelims and Mains Exam respectively.
Candidates can download it by logging in with their Registration Number/Roll Number and Password or Date of Birth. It is mandatory to carry a printed copy of the admit card along with a valid photo ID proof to the examination centre.

IBPS PO Previous Year Cut Off Marks
The IBPS PO Cut off for Prelims is calculated out of 100 marks, while the Mains cut off is calculated out of 225 marks. In the last year (2025), the minimum marks required to qualify prelims was 49.21 out of 100 and to qualify Mains was 75.75. It is an achievable target, but it needs consistency and strategic preparation.
