The English Syllabus Class 12 CBSE 2023-24, New PDF Download is broken down into 3 sections: Reading Skills, Creative Writing Skills, Literature Text, and Supplementary Reading Text. Class 12 English Syllabus 2023-24

The CBSE class 12 English syllabus 2023-24 is divided into two sections: English Core and English Elective. All students must take the English Core curriculum, but the English Elective curriculum is optional. The paper English Elective should not be confused with the English Core curriculum, which has the subject code 301.

Section A: Reading Skills  (22 Marks)

1. One previously unseen passage was used to test understanding, interpretation, analysis, and inference. Inference will also be used to measure vocabulary. The passage could be factual, descriptive, or literary in nature.
2. To measure comprehension, interpretation, analysis, inference, and evaluation, one unseen case-based factual passage with verbal/visual inputs such as statistical data, charts, and so on.

Class 12th English Syllabus 2023-24: Section B

Section B Writing Skills – (18 Marks)

1. Notice of the limit of 50 words. One of the two questions posed must be answered.(4 points for format, 2 points for content, and 1 point for spelling and grammar accuracy).
2. Invitation and reply, formal/informal, up to 50 words. One of the two questions posed must be answered. (4 points: Format: 1; Content: 2; Spelling and Grammar: 1).
3. Letters are to be replied to in 120-150 words based on verbal/visual input. Application for a job with bio-data or resume is an example of a letter type. Letters to the editor (suggestions or opinions on public-interest matters). One of the two questions must be answered. (5 Marks: 1) Format: 1 / Organisation of ideas: 1/Content: 2 / Spelling and Grammar Accuracy: 1).
4. Writing an article/report, descriptive and analytical in nature, based on vocal inputs, to be addressed in 120-150 words. One of the two questions must be answered. (5 Marks: Format: 1 / Organisation of Ideas: 1/Content: 2 / Accuracy of Spelling and Grammar:1).

Class 12 English Syllabus 2023-24: Literature Syllabus Section C

Section C: Literature Text Book and Supplementary Reading Text – (40 Marks)

This part will include a range of assessment items such as Multiple Choice Questions, Objective Type Questions, Short Answer Type Questions, and Long Answer Type Questions to test comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and extrapolation beyond the text.

1. One poetry passage from the book Flamingo was chosen to measure understanding, interpretation, analysis, inference, and appreciation. (6×1=6) Marks
2. One Prose extract from the book Vistas out of two to measure understanding, interpretation, analysis, assessment, and appreciation. (4×1=4 Marks)
3. To measure understanding, interpretation, analysis, inference, and evaluation, use one of two prose extracts from the book Flamingo. (6×1=6) Marks
4. Short answer questions (from the book Flamingo’s Prose and poetry) are to be answered in 40-50 words each. Questions should inspire inferential responses through critical thinking. Five of the six questions must be answered. (5×2=10) Marks
5. Short answer questions from Prose (Vistas) must be answered in 40- 50 words each. Questions should inspire inferential responses through critical thinking. Any two of the three questions can be completed. (2×2=4 Marks)
6. One long response question from Prose/Poetry (Flamingo) must be answered in 120-150 words. Questions can be focused on an incident/topic/passage/extract/event as a reference point to assess extrapolation beyond and across the text. The inquiry will elicit an analytical and evaluative answer from the student. Any one of the two questions must be completed. (1×5=5 Marks)
7. One long answer question based on chapters from the book Vistas, is to be answered in 120-150 words, to measure global comprehension and extrapolation beyond the text. Questions requiring analytical and evaluative responses based on incidents, events, or themes. Any one of the two questions must be completed. (1×5=5 Marks)
